Global Boot Spotting

It's Monday, it's boot-spotting. Get stuck in as we bring you our selection of the best boots on show from planet football.

Paddy Madden

Paddy Madden (Scunthorpe United) Nike Mercurial Vapor XV

Paddy Madden produced one of the most exclusive boot spots of the weekend. The Scunthorpe striker laced up in one of just 1,998 pairs of the limited edition Nike Mercurial Vapor XV football boots, launched in May 2013 to commemorate 15 years of the Nike Mercurial and the player who inspired them - Mr R9.

We saw it last week with Ryan Bertrand and we're seeing it again with Muhamed Besic this week. The Everton midfielder was the latest player to cut off the Dynamic Fit Collar from the Mercurial Superfly IV to create a standard silhouette Flyknit boot. It doesn't look pretty but with the amount of players that have taken modification into their own hands it must have Nike pondering over a Flyknit Vapor.

Matthew Upson

Matthew Upson's boot room is the most reliable in all of English football. At any point in his career it would be opened to Copa Mundials and World Cups - no nonsense from England's 2010 World Cup Finals Joint Top Goalscorer - yep. Nowadays Upson is sporting his classic, mixed soleplate boots for MK Dons. Keep your innovation - Upson knows what he likes.

Alex Iwobi

Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi was handed a start in the Gunners' 3-1 FA Cup win over Sunderland on Saturday and marked the occasion with a custom low-key Nike Mercurial Superfly IV colourway. The 19-year-old opted for an all black design with the only colouring coming on the Swooshes and laces. Tidy.

Mustapha Carayol

Mustapha Carayol took just 45 minutes to score on his Leeds United debut. The winger cut inside an unleashed a powerful drive into the top corner as his new side beat Rotherham 2-0 at Elland Road. The significance behind Carayol's strike was that it was the latest in a number of long rangers he's scored since he moved into the Concave Volt + boot, a silo that uses the brand's unique shooting technology aimed to increase shot power and accuracy.

Hakeeb Adelakun

Another Scunthorpe player laced up in a Ronaldo signature boot at the weekend was Hakeeb Adelakun who unlike Madden opted for the footwear of the Portuguese legend rather than the Brazilian namesake. Adelakun was wearing the CR7 Mercurial Vapor VIII, the fourth exclusive design launched in November 2012.

Jake Buxton

Jake Buxton (Derby) Umbro Speciali Eternal

Derby progressed to the FA Cup 4th round with a 2-1 win away at Hartlepool. It was Rams' defenders Stephen Warnock and Jake Buxton that caught our eye, both wearing the black and white Umbro Speciali Eternal to match up with their same coloured, same branded home strip.

James Constable

James Constable (Eastleigh) Nike T90 Laser III

Veteran striker James Constable prepared for Eastleigh's FA Cup 3rd round home tie with Bolton Wanderers in a pair of Nike Total 90 Laser III boots originally launched in 2010. The T90 Laser III was one of the most popular silos of the series that has now been retired and replaced by the Hypervenom, a boot that bares little similarity to the power boot loved by so many.

Vladimir Smicer

Liverpool Legends took on the Australian Legends in Sydney last week with a number of ex-pros on show - all a little bit older, a little bit wiser and quite a lot heavier from their playing days. Vladimir Smicer, one of Liverpool's goalscoring Istanbul heroes opted for the whiteout adidas Copa Mundial for the run out down under. A fine choice indeed.

Joe Jacobson

There was very nearly an upset at Adams Park on Saturday as Aston Villa almost won an actual game of football. Unfortunately, Wycombe spoiled the party by taking the tie to a replay, which will give Joe Jacobson the chance to lace up his Tech Craft Superfly IV boots at a Premier League ground.

Dietmar Hamann

Dietmar Hamann was also in action in Australia. The 'Legends' games always produce the odd throwback when it comes to footwear as retired players hang onto the boots from their playing days - in this case it was the German midfielder lacing up in the same old-school Nike Tiempo he wore in his Premier League days.
