Celebrating the truly unique line of sight and respect that goalkeepers from the elite have commanded, adidas have revealed their limited edition 'History Pack' - innovations for today's game, inspired by histories legends.
There's no denying, the significance of those heroic keepers to have taken the world's stage by storm is enormous. A back bone that characterises a teams success, there are few positions more under the microscope. With the greats picking up more appearances than many, it is them whose senses must be most finely tuned that are celebrated with this limited release. The 'History Pack' is created for the greatest here and now while celebrating those that have held the fort in years gone by.
Made up of three designs, they are based on gloves from the archives with familiar traits of the three stripes shining through in beautiful fashion. The first design pays homage to the gloves worn in the 1982 World Cup by Germany’s Toni Schumacher, and will be worn by Porto’s Iker Casillas. The second, inspired by France’s Fabien Barthez in the 1998 World Cup, will be seen on the hands of Arsenal’s Petr Cech.
The third design combines two of Germany’s greatest players, regardless of position, with the 1997 gloves worn by Oliver Kahn re imagined for Manuel Neuer. Icons in every sense, world beaters along the way.
Not simply a nostalgic release for the now, these gloves are built on fundamental innovative technologies advances that the brand have developed. Based on the adidas Ace Zones Pro all the gloves feature Evo Zone Tech grip zone on the fingers and the seamless touch negative cut palm. Heroic aesthetics rooted in performance.
History re-imagined, there will only be 1,400 pairs released to the public. In a game so dominated by releases tailored for other areas on the pitch, it's a welcome addition to see keepers get their slice of limited edition style. Beautiful they are too - the perfect tribute. That smell of a fresh pair of gloves, marvelous. You can pick the gloves up today from here and they will be donned on pitch for the first time on the 8th Dec.
