Metasox in the Premier League

Metasox in the Premier League

The sight of a player wearing club socks taped to a white trainer sock has become quite a familiar one in the Premier League, but Wolves player Michael Kightly might just have given us a glimpse at another reason why players wear different socks...

They're one of football's more innovative products, and it appears Metasox are becoming increasingly popular in the Premier League. This weekend we spotted Wolves player Michael Kightly, who incidentally wears a boot that offers little protection, sporting a pair of Metasox during his pre-match warm up before taping them up for the game.

This weekend's sighting of Kightly made us realise there could be more Metasox wearers in the league than we actually realised. Who knows how many of the players who cut-off the bottom of their clubs socks, actually have Metasox branding under the tape? Obviously it's speculation, but we imagine the likes of Nani and Gareth Bale would be prime candidates to wear the injury preventing socks.

Metasox first made an appearance on SoccerBible back in August 2011, and seeming like a good solution to a common footballing injury, we've been keeping our eyes peeled ever since to see professional players sporting a pair. With the current range of lightweight football boots on the market, injury prevention seems quite low on the list of performance priorities, so the 3mm Silicon Impact Pad protecting the Metatarsal bones and able to withstand 40 Newtons of force could be quite a useful addition to the kit bag.

We'll be keeping a look-out to see if there are more pro players wearing Metasox, but we're also keen to hear from the SoccerBible audience and anyone who has worn Metasox to let us know how they felt and performed. Share your opinions and thoughts with the boots community online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
