Ibrahimovic Trains In Black-Out Nike Mercurial Vapor IX

Ibrahimovic used PSG's winter break in Qatar to trial his black-out Nike Mercurial Vapor IX boots. The former Barcelona striker is still high priority when it comes to distributing early samples of new Nike boots and was spotted wearing them at his sides training camp.

Of course, Ibrahimovic is not alone. Luka Modric recently went one step further, cheekily wearing one of the launch colourways of the Mercurial Vapor IX during an Real Madrid open training session. Zlatan is still keeping his boots under disguise, however it wont be long before we see them firing in the goals in competitive action.

With anticipation building each day, the Nike Mercurial Vapor IX is expected to land around mid-January. While we'd love to see a black-out edition like Zlatan's released, Nike are expected to drop two typically bold colourways this month. For years, Ibrahimovic has helped front the Mercurial line. He's firing on all cylinders with PSG and remains a key face for the Vapor range.

The most noticeable feature Nike will bring to the Mercurial Vapor IX is the redesigned upper. The newly engineered dimple-like teijin synthetic material - branded 'Speed Control' - has been designed to increase the friction between boot and ball. Delivering enhanced touch at speed, this will combine with Nike's ACC technology to create one of the most advanced Vapor uppers to date.

As Ibra's boots reveal, Nike will employ the same Tepex glass fibre chassis as used on the Vapor VIII. From our understanding Nike used early prototypes to experiment with a half glass composite, half carbon-fibre outsole. But from the latest images to surface, it doesn't look like carbon-fibre technology will be returning to the Mercurial line.

Anticipation is building as we get closer to the official launch of the Nike Mercurial Vapor IX. What are you expecting Nike to deliver with their latest Vapor model? Join in the conversation online, on Twitter and on Facebook
