Mario Gomez In Nike Switch
Mario Gomez has returned from Bayern Munich's mid-season Qatar break with a new gift - a pair of Nike Tiempo Legend IV's. The German goal machine has long been a PUMA athlete, but could this be the end of a five year association...
Gomez has been snapped this week wearing Nike Tiempo's in training, as Bayern Munich prepare for the second half of their Bundesliga campaign. Reports are yet to confirm if Mario Gomez has made the switch permanent, but if he does it will be a huge loss for PUMA to lose one of their lead assets innative Germany.
In the last few seasons PUMA have recruited quite an impressive line-up, and can boast a strike-force of Mario Gomez, Sergio Aguero and Radamel Falcao, to accompany such midfielder players as Marco Reus, Cesc Fabregas and Yaya Toure. But to now see Gomez wearing a leather heritage boot must be quite puzzling to PUMA, who have fitted the forward man with synthetic speed boots his entire career.
Of course the real proof will come if Gomez chooses to wear the Nike Tiempo football boots on game day. It's not too unusual to see brands attempting to poach athletes in a training scenario, but in front of the world's media for a competitive game would be a bold statement from the player.
Perhaps PUMA should consider offering Gomez a pair of the new PUMA King football boots, if it is the case he's got a hankering for a leather boot! Just to ward of Nike, who are probably still seeking revenge after PUMA recruited both Aguero and Fabregas from under their noses.
