Van Persie Wears adidas adizero

Robin Van Persie took the boot world by surprise this week, when he appeared wearing the adidas F50 adizero boots. RVP has long been a frustration for the adidas boot development and marketing machine, but could he now be making a shock switch?

Premier League top goalscorer and one of the best strikers in world football, Robin Van Persie is a highly prized asset for adidas. Or rather he would be if he chose to wear their latest footwear, but instead RVP opts to wear a trusted pair of Predator adipowers'. But it now seems a compromise has been reached between brand and player, with Van Persie trialling the new adizero.

Van Persie has been an adidas player throughout his career, a long term Predator wearer he made his debut in 2002 wearing the Predator Mania. Apart from a brief spell in adipure, the Predator has been Van Persie's boot of choice, although he's seemingly not been impressed with the latest Lethal Zones incarnation.

Because Van Persie was wearing the leather adizero (a choice preferred by Messi), it's clear his resistance to the new Pred is because of the synthetic upper. This came as quite a culture shock to the range, and you can understand a player who has worn leather boots over 10 years having a resistance to change, especially when they are in such red hot form. The adizero however offers RVP an all-leather performance.

Despite the boot change, Van Persie still has requirements and customisation to his footwear. We know from players that the sole-plate is a particular area of choice, and for RVP the old Predator Traxion system seems to work best. We've seen it fitted to his adipowers' - instead of the Sprintframe - and this is again the case for the adizero boots he is testing.

We'll be keen to see if Van Persie makes the switch permanent, and let us know what you think of his footwear change? Join in the conversation online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
