Global Boot Spotting

THE PICK OF THE WEEK'S BOOT SPOTTING FROM ACROSS THE GLOBE.

Mario Götze

The opening Champions League group games saw Nike roll out their new on-pitch boot line-up for Fall '14. World Cup Final match winner Mario Götze was in action against Man City wearing the "Hyper Turquoise" Magista Obra.

Jamie Vardy

Jamie Vardy (Leicester City) Nike HyperVenom

Jamie Vardy was Manchester United's nightmare on Sunday. The Leicester striker scored one, won two penalties and assisted two other goals as Leicester beat United 5-3. Vardy, who was playing non-league just two seasons ago for Fleetwood Town was sporting the new "Hyper Crimson" HyperVenom.

Pepe
Pepe

Pepe (Real Madrid) Umbro Speciali 4

Pepe reverted to his Umbro Speciali IV boots this week in the Champions League. The Real Madrid defender was a long-term Umbro player but switched to Nike in 2012. Umbro could do with some new player support after Joe Hart was lured in by the Swoosh so the re-capture of Pepe would be a step forward for the brand.

Shane Long

Shane Long (Southampton) Nike T90 Laser IV

Shane Long must have bought the T90 Laser IV in bulk. The silo is now discontinued in favour of the HyperVenom but the Saints striker has remained in the boot since switching from PUMA last season.

Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi (Barcelona) adidas adizero F50

Leo Messi wore his latest signature adidas F50 in the week. The Blaugrana edition will be worn by Barca's number 10 exclusively in the Champions League this season whereas his other signature boot will be worn in domestic action. You're not doing badly when you've got two signature boots out at the same time.

Jerome Boateng
Jerome Boateng

Jerome Boateng (Bayern Munich) Nike Tiempo Legend V

Jerome Boateng smashed in a late winner against Man City this week to kick-start Bayern Munich's Champions League campaign. The Bayern defender was wearing the new "Neo Turquoise" Tiempo Legend V, in our opinion the best colourway from Nike's Fall '14 collection.

Franco Vazquez

Franco Vazquez (Palermo) Nike Tiempo Legend V

On the complete other end of the scale to Boateng was Franco Vazquez wearing a totally blacked-out pair of the same boots. On first glance Vazquez's black socks made the boots look like they featured a Flyknit collar but on closer inspection it's clear they're a customised low-key design of the Tiempo.

Samuel Eto'o
Samuel Eto'o

Samuel Eto'o (Everton) Puma evoSPEED 1

Samuel Eto'o's days with PUMA look to have come to an end as the Everton striker has taken the black pen treatment to his first generation evoSPEED boots to hide any branding and to alert other brands that he's now a free agent. The old boot equivalent of transfer listing yourself. One to watch in the coming weeks.

Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling (Liverpool) Nike Mercurial Superfly IV

Liverpool slipped to a second consecutive Premier League defeat at the weekend as they fell 3-1 to West Ham. The shining light in the Reds' poor start to the season has once again been Raheem Sterling who was laced up in the "Laser Orange" Superfly to notch his side's only goal at Upton Park.

Paolo Guerrero

Paolo Guerrero (Corinthians) Nike HyperVenom

Another player in black out boots this week was Paolo Guerrero. The Corinthians man has put a tidy black paint job on his HyperVenom boots to give them a sharp stealth look on-pitch.

Javier Hernandez
Javier Hernandez

Javier Hernandez (Real Madrid) Nike Tiempo Legend V

Javier Hernandez knows what he likes when it comes to boot choice. The Real Madrid forward loves a white football boot and has stayed in his favoured colourway even when Nike don't have one on the market.

Eliaquim Mangala

Eliaquim Mangala (Manchester City) Nike Magista Obra

Man City's new £32 million defender made an impressive Premier League debut against Chelsea wearing the new Nike Magista Obra, which is a top match for City's home kit. Mangala had been wearing the adidas Predator for Porto last season but his switch to England coincides with a switch in brand allegiance too.

Abel Hernandez

Abel Hernandez (Hull City) Nike Mercurial Superfly IV

Hull's Abel Hernandez has taken modification into his own hands by cutting the Dynamic Fit Collar off his Nike Mercurial Superfly IV boots. A trait that Pato has already experimented with as Hernandez looks for a 'normal' shaped football boot without sacrificing the Flyknit technology.
