We've picked out a selection of the newest, custom and throwback football boots on show as pre-season shifts another gear. From Rio to Rotherham, it was another busy week of football worldwide as players get accustomed to their new footwear for the new campaign. Dive in.
Neymar (Brazil) Nike Hypervenom Phinish II
After missing the Copa America, Neymar is back in training with Brazil ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The Barcelona striker will mark the games in his homeland by wearing his signature Nike NJR x JORDAN Hypervenom II boot. A collaboration of serious magnitude that takes inspiration from the Jordan V, a personal favourite of Neymar.
Antonee Robinson (Everton) Nike Mercurial Superfly IV
Everton's youngsters are currently taking part in the Northern Ireland U21 Super Cup, giving Antonee Robinson the chance to lace up in his custom Nike Mercurial Superfly IV boots against Espanyol. Robinson has equipped the upper of his boots with a shiny blue wrap to create a distinctive graphic on pitch.
Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) Puma evoSPEED 1.5
After missing City's 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich, Sergio Aguero will have to wait a little while longer to wear the new PUMA evoSPEED 1.5 Tricks colourway. The proposed Manchester Derby in China has since been called off, meaning Aguero will have to make do with sporting his new design in training until City play Borussia Dortmund on Thursday.
Rai Simons (Chesterfield) Nike Mercurial Vapor II
Rai Simmons wins throwback boot of the week by digging out a pair of Nike Mercurial Vapor II boots from way back in 2004. The Chesterfield man even managed to match the colourway up with his club's away strip. There can't be many pairs of the second-gem Vapor knocking around on pitches these days and when you consider Simons was just eight years old when this boot launched, he's done well to get hold of a pair.
Peter Odemwingie (Hull) Mizuno Morelia Neo
Peter Odemwingie has made a half arsed attempt at blacking out his Mizuno Morelia Neo boots. Semi colouring-in the Mizuno logo with a black pen ain't fooling no one. With Hull counting down the days until their Premier League return, Odemwingie will be looking to force his way into the new manager's plan before further hoping for a new boot deal from a brand.
Ross Barkley (Everton) Nike Magista Obra II
Another player whose endorsement availability was thrown into doubt at the weekend was Ross Barkley. The England midfielder has been wearing the Nike Hypervenom for the past few seasons but switched into a complete blackout Nike Magista Obra II on Saturday against Barnsley. Barkley starred in a 3-0 win for the Toffees by scoring and assisting in an impressive second half performance.
James McClean (West Brom) Nike Mercurial Superfly V
James McClean's incredible boot collection has another latest addition in the form of the Nike 'Pitch Dark' Mercurial Superfly V. McClean regularly mixes up his footwear with custom and limited edition releases but the West Brom midfielder sported the understated "Black/Pink Blast" update against Vitesse Arnhem in the Baggies pre-season tour of Holland.
Rob Green (Leeds) New Balance Visaro
Leeds goalkeeper Rob Green has opted for the K-leather edition of the New Balance Visaro to wear throughout pre-season. Green was in action during Leeds' 2-1 win over Peterborough at the weekend wearing an all black upper with volt New Balance branding.
Alex Morgan (USA) Nike Hypervenom Phantom II
Alex Morgan switched out of the 'Radiant Reveal' pack and into the Nike 2016 Women's cleat pack as the USWNT beat Costa Rica 4-0 at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas. Morgan and the rest of her team mates will be wearing the collection when the U.S. ladies look to retain their gold medals at the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil later this summer.
Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester City) New Balance Furon 2.0
After signing for New Balance last week Kasper Schmeichel got a chance to give a run out to his new footwear in Leicester City's 1-1 draw in the International Champions Cup against Celtic. The Danish stopper switched into the next "White/Red/Black" colourway of the second-generation Furon as he helped his side to a 6-5 victory on penalties at Celtic Park.
Mathieu Dossevi (Standard Liege) Nike Mercurial Superfly Heritage iD
Mathieu Dossevi provided one of the spots of the week by lacing up in an edition of the Nike Mercurial Superfly Heritage iD. We've seen plenty of players uptake the Ronaldo 1998 World Cup version in blue, yellow and silver but Dossevi is the first player we've spotted in an alternative colourway. Dynamic Fit Collar rolled down for a purer throwback vibe. Smart.
Greg Halford (Rotherham) Concave Volt +
Concave launched their new "Black/Gold" updates early last week and they've been quick to make their way onto the pitch. Rotherham's Greg Halford grabbed a pair of the Volt + silo as his side lost 2-1 to Sunderland at the New York Stadium on Saturday. All black upper with classy gold finishings, a pristine look for Concave's leading boot.
Ousmane Dembele (Borussia Dortmund) Nike What The Mercurial
Not strictly this week, but one we stumbled across from earlier in the month and have yet to include. Borussia Dortmund's Ousmane Dembele became the first player that we're aware of to wear the Nike 'What The Mercurial?' The boot was released in limited numbers to celebrate the legacy of the Mercurial series, with Nike taking the Mercurial Superfly and washing it with twelve different boots from its past. Beautiful chaos.
