Global Boot Spotting

Back in the mix. International football is replaced by the good stuff as leagues start to take shape across Europe. We've looked back on the past seven days to pick out our selection of the players wearing the latest, custom and most throwback football boots. Let's go...

Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid) PUMA Future 18.1 NetFit

Antoine Griezmann debuted the next-generation PUMA project this weekend. Switching into the PUMA Future 18.1 NetFit for the Madrid derby, Griezmann's new footwear replaces the evoPOWER, and is the latest silo from the brand that features fully customisable lacing.

Francesco Vicari (SPAL) Nike Tiempo Legend 7

Francesco Vicari took dramatic customisation into his own hands at the weekend by cutting out giant holes in the heels of his Nike Tiempo 7 boots. We've seen players revert to these tactics before to release pressure on the Achilles or blisters – Philippe Coutinho did the same not too long ago – but not as large as the holes Vicari has created.

Memphis Depay (Lyon) Under Armour Spotlight Dream Chaser

Memphis Depay switched into his new signature Under Armour boot this week. The "Dream Chaser" special edition was created especially for the Lyon midfielder, and features striking Egyptian hieroglyphics with a design taken directly from the Egyptian tattoos of the player.

Vincent Kompany (Manchester City) adidas COPA 17.1

Vincent Kompany publicly criticised adidas when they discontinued the ACE 16.1 silo earlier this year. Kompany was disappointed that the Three Stripes retired a traditional leather boot, but he's now naturally switched into the COPA 17.1 series. Sorted.

Ciaran Clark (Newcastle United) adidas COPA 17.1

Ciaran Clark joined Kompany in the COPA 17.1 this weekend as Newcastle lost to Man United. The fact that more players are wearing a 'heritage' silo at the top level proves that the COPA 17.1 series isn't just a Sunday League hero – it's a genuine option with a lightweight build that's getting deserved recognition on the professional scene.

Ezgjan Alioski (Leeds) Nike Mercurial Vapor XI

Ezgjan Alioski's goal kept Leeds hot on the tails of the chasing pack in the Championship on Sunday as his side beat Middlesbrough 2-1 at Elland Road. The Macedonian midfielder was once again sporting his custom red and yellow Mercurial Vapor XI design.

Laura Fusetti (Brescia) adidas Predator Powerswerve

Laura Fusetti took things back to 2007 this week as she laced up in the adidas Predator Powerswerve for Brescia's Champions League tie with Montpellier. A decade on and Fusetti should keep her eyes peeled this week if she wants to update her Predator collection...

Weston McKennie (USA) adidas Glitch 17

The USA gave their next generation a chance to shine in last week's international friendlies, having failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. 19-year-old Weston Mckennie took his chance by scoring on his debut against Portugal wearing the adidas Glitch 17 silo.

Weston McKennie (Schalke) adidas Glitch 17

Yep, same guy. Mckennie returned to his club Schalke at the weekend to beat Hamburger 2-0. Demonstrating the versatility of the Glitch silo, McKennie switched up his outer-skins and changed into the bright blue edition of the laceless boot.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Manchester United) Nike Mercurial Vapor XI

The big man made his Manchester United return in their 4-1 win over Newcastle on Saturday evening. Ibrahimovic looks to still be on Nike's books as he sported the new Nike "Fire" Mercurial Vapor XI colourway.
