Global Boot Spotting

Another week of regular domestic action just before the bright lights and big bucks of the Champions League returns and another boat load of boots on show, from throwback specials to the latest releases with some custom flavour chucked in for good measure. Let's dive straight in...

Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City) Nike Mercurial Superfly VI

Riyad Marrez has been seen dabbling with the "Game Over" Mercurial Superfly VI in training this week. The Algerian usually laces up in the Hypervenom and this could be an indication that he's considering a move away from the now retired silo. He was back in them in training later in the week though, and was in them when he came off the bench in City's emphatic win over Chelsea.

Kyle Walker (Manchester City ) Nike PhantomVNM

Sticking with Man City and we get another player who seemingly can't make up his mind with Nike's choices. Kyle Walker normally wears the Mercurial, but he wore the PhantomVNM against Everton in midweek before changing at half-time from the Mercurial into the PhantomVNM in City's demolition of Chelsea.

Tiemoue Bakayoko (AC Milan) Nike Mercurial Vapor 360

Currently on loan from Chelsea, tough tackling midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko obviously fancied a change of pace this week, turning out for Milan's 3-0 win against Cagliari in a blacked out pair of the Nike Mercurial Vapor360 "Raised on Concrete". Not the best effort at self-blackout. Needs a better permanent marker does Tiemoue.

Moussa Niakhate (Mainz 05) Nike Hypervenom

Mainz 05 were playing in their impressive "Carnival Kit" in their game against Bayer Leverkusen this week as part of the region's carnival season celebrations. Complementing his kit, defender Moussa Niakhate opted to go with the throwback special that is the first-ten Nike Hypervenom. Looked great, but didn't stop Leverkusen running riot as they beat Mainz 1-5.

Divock Origi (Liverpool) Nike Mercurial GS360

Probably still thinking about that last minute opportunity that went begging against West Ham and looking to cheer himself up a bit, Liverpool's Belgian striker Divock Origi showed up to training in the Nike Mercurial GS360. About as rare but as precious as a Divock Origi goal.

Sami Khedira (Juventus) Nike Tiempo Legend R10

Another training ground pick me up after Juve – brace yourselves – dropped points last weekend by drawing a game. To cheer himself up following this catastrophe, German midfielder Sami Khedira decided to slip into the outstanding Nike Tiempo Legend R10.

BS Berisha 1-min.jpg

Valon Berisha (Lazio) Nike Mercurial Vapor X

Lazio midfielder Valon Belisha came off the bench in this weekend's away game against Frosinone wearing the Nike Mercurial Vapor X from 2014's "Shine Through" pack. Lazio won the game 0-1. Belisha won the best-throwback-boots-on-the-pitch award. If there is such a thing.

BS Griezmann 1-min.jpg

Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid) PUMA Future 19.1

Antoine Griezmann often makes a special effort for the big games, and it was no different for this weekend's Madrid derby as the Frenchman took to the pitch in a pair of PUMA Furture 19.1 boots, customised once again by regular collaborator @orravan_design. Griezmann managed to notch in them as well. Didn't stop Atleti slumping to a 1-3 defeat though.

BS Schmeichel 1-min.jpg

Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester City) adidas Predator Mania Champagne

Kasper Schmeichel has some fine taste in football boots. He's been spotted in a variety of classic Predators recently and for Leicester's match against Tottenham yesterday, he wore the remake of the 2002 champagne Mania complete with custom SG soleplate. Absolute beauty, this.

Keisuke Honda (Melbourne Victory) Mizuno Rebula V2

Getting to grips with his injury problems (see last week's 10 things you might have missed) Melbourne's Japanese star, Keisuke Honda wore the "Day and Night" Mizuno Rebula V2 as he came of the bench in the game against Perth Glory. The Victory couldn't live up to their name, crashing to a 1-2 loss. Fact.

BS Nelson 1-min.jpg

Reiss Nelson (Hoffenheim) adidas Glitch19

Reiss Nelson is the latest young English talent to be ripping it up on the continent, and last week he came off the bench in Hoffenheim's match against Dusseldorf in the latest "Archetic Pack" Glitch skin. Honours were even as the sides played out a 1-1.
