Arsenal midfielder Dani Ceballos has slipped into Nike’s next-generation PhantomVSN ahead of the busy festive fixtures as the Spanish international gets to grips with the first update that's due hit the VSN series in the new year.
The PhantomVSN debuted back in July 2018, with Nike launching the new silo immediately after the World Cup final so in today's rapidly evolving market it's well overdue an update. It was originally brought in to replace the Magista, and it was joined by its partner in crime, the PhantomVNM, some six months later. So with 18 months on the clock since its initial launch Nike are gearing up to unleash a second-gen in 2020.
As is always the case with blacked-out boots, it’s hard to see much in terms of new tech, but what we can see is that the soleplate doesn’t seem to have been altered all that much, suggesting that most of the change will come in the upper. A pull tab appears to have been added, while the GhostLace system is still in place, albeit with a more streamlined silhouette. Whether all of this suggests that the majority of the alterations take place on the inside of the boot, specifically with the QuadFit construction remains to be seen, but a new heel construction is clearly visible. What we can safely assume is that this will be Nike's first major boot activity of the new decade.
