Has Leroy Sane Been Given A Signature Edition Mercurial Vapor 14 From Nike?

On his return to training with Bayern Munich following the international break, Leroy Sane has been spotted in what looks to be a possible signature edition Nike Mercurial Vapor 14, suggesting that the German is set to join a fairly exclusive group of players.

Getting your own signature edition boot is often a mark of your status in the game, and brands tend to only roll them out to their top performers. So it’s a bit of a surprise to see that Leroy Sané may have received his own pair from Nike, showing off a mystery box on his Instagram stories before lacing up in a previously unseen pair Nike Mercurial Vapor 14 for training. While no one can question the German International’s talent, he hasn’t really hit the heights expected of him after his switch from Manchester City. That being said, after a difficult debut season and a slightly rocky start to his second, the Bayern man is starting to find his feet again, with some impressive displays in recent months.

Nike are not quick to roll out signature editions, with some top billed performers over the years never getting the red carpet treatment. Ronaldo is the obvious king of the signature edition, and Mbappé has been enjoying some signature style more frequently in recent years. Jadon Sancho was a bit of a surprise, in the same way that Sané is.

So the Mercurial Vapor 14’s themselves clearly feature custom details including the number 10 on the heel (Sané’s number at Bayern), and the word ‘INSANE’ – a clear play on words that, if you think about too much gets a bit gross, but we’ll leave it at that. The base colour is an off-white, with red dominating the forefoot, fading as it travels to the mid foot. The aforementioned custom details and Swoosh also come in red.

So is this set to be a wider commercial release, or is it a one-of-one special made just for Sané? While we can’t be too sure, a closer look at the mystery box that he posted on his stories suggests that it might be the latter.

Eyes on Bayern's match tomorrow with SC Freiburg to see if Sané gives these boots an official debut.
