Over the weekend, Lionel Messi guided Inter Miami to a 6-2 victory over New England Revolution with an 11-minute hat-trick, and he did while debuting a pair of upcoming adidas Messi x Bad Bunny F50 boots.
There are no more superlatives left to describe Lionel Messi in football. This weekend, with his side trailing 0-2 to New England Revolution, the Argentinian wizard turned it on to provide his first MLS hat-trick and an assist in the second half, with the game ending 6-2. It was a result that saw Inter Miami ending this stage of their campaign with the best regular season in Major League Soccer history, finishing with a MLS-record 74 points – one more than the Revolution had in 2021. But do you know what the real kicker was? He was only on the pitch for about 35 minutes. As well as making his mark in the result sense though, he also caught the eye with his footwear choice, revealing yet another upcoming signature colourway.
It was only earlier this month that he got his last signature colourway with adidas releasing the ‘Triunfo Estelar’ F50 in celebration of Messi Day (10/10 – geddit?), but with the dust barely having settled on that release (he wore them in Argentina’s recent internationals against Venezuela and Bolivia, bagging a hat-trick in the latter, natch), he now looks like he has a new set of kicks, and they look like they come with a nice collaborative angle to them.
At first glance you’d be forgiven for thinking they’re just a golden brown pair of boots, with a mix of white and Messi’s signature Argentinian blue accents flashing across the upper. And visually, that’s about all you get. But when you line it up alongside images of the recently revealed Messi x Bad Bunny adidas Gazelle Indoor, it becomes pretty evident that this is part of that imminent pack.
For those not in the know, Bad Bunny is a Puerto Rican singer and rapper, and he’s known to be a fan of Messi, featuring him in the lyrics of his album "Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana”. He started working with the brand four years ago.
The Gazelle Indoor arrives in a tan ‘Cardboard’ colourway, and is apparently constructed from a leather that is a lot more premium compared to “regular” Gazelles. The trainer features an off-centre, asymmetrical T-shaped toebox, adding a fresh twist to its classic design. Running down each side of the shoe the classic serrated Three Stripes in ‘Cream White,’ which also appears in an ‘X’ formation around the heel. The shoe’s upper rests on top of a see-through gum sole, enhancing its overall aesthetic, while touches of soft suede lend it an added level of premium feel.
Acknowledging the collab, both Messi’s and Bad Bunny’s signatures feature in red on the lateral side, while the tongue and insoles read “Bad Bunny para Messi,” celebrating the collaboration between the two South American icons.
