Creative collective Offside Outlet have launched their debut capsule, giving a second life to some iconic jerseys from the past, utilising them to honour some of the most iconic players of all time.

Inspired by true pioneers, innovators and icons of the game, Offside Outlet’s debut collection offers up quite the 5-a-side dream team. Their selected icons for this collection are David Beckham, Ronaldo (R9), Paolo Rossi, Diego Maradona and Iker Casillas, and they’ve utilised vintage football shirts to honour these palyers, giving them a new lease on life whilst also creating sustainability.

First up is David Beckham. 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of his legendary free kick against Greece. Around the world, school kids, aspiring academy players and the world’s elite footballers were all trying to emulate the ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ technique. With this jersey, Offside Outlet have created a twist on the jersey that Becks wore that day by switching it out for the 2004 England home shirt. Instead they’ve added a red bending curving shape instead of the traditional vertical line and printed an illustration on the back of Beckham taking a corner.

Next up is O Fenômeno. A legendary title for a legendary player. Ronaldo only had one season at Barca but to many, he was in his prime. Consistently celebrating his record breaking goals with his armed outstretched to replicate the statue of Christ the Redeemer that watches over his native Rio de Janeiro. The jersey features an iridescent print, with the colours changing in different light settings.

In a year in which the world was rocked by inconceivable loss and devastation, 2020 saw the loss of one of Italy’s most historic players in Paolo Rossi. The 1982 World Cup winning striker was, put simply, sublime. The ‘Rossi’ typography on the back of the jersey is an ode to the Mundial style prints that were popular in the 1980s and an illustration of Paolo.

Last year we lost football and cultural legend Diego Maradona. Adored by the football community worldwide, Maradona revolutionised what it meant to be a number 10. Small and mighty, few have been able to replicate his greatness. In an ode to his domestic success with Italian Side Napoli, Offside Outlet pays homage to the unbelievably, drippy baller that was Diego Maradona.

When talking about the greatest goalkeepers the world has ever seen, Iker Casillas has to be in the conversation. Put simply Casillas was one of the safest pairs of hands in world football. His acrobatic ability to twist, turn and consistently make fingertip saves, makes him a legend. So miraculous and divine is his goalkeeping ability that the fans nicknamed him ‘Saint Iker’. This is the most experimental shirt of the collection featuring hand painted as well as printed elements, combining black matte colours with iridescent prints and a few heavenly cherubs to boot.
