Following on from the brand’s debut with the Original 92, 12 Pentagons have revealed The 32 Bit Mesh, their most complex ball yet.
Jon-Paul Wheatley, better known by his social media handle, JonPaulsBalls, kick-started 12 Pentagons earlier this year, giving what started as a hobby some real validity – a point punctuated by the fact that the brand's first ball, the Original 92, sold out in a little over four hours of its launch. If you’re totally unfamiliar, allow us to fill you in: 12 Pentagons create beautifully bespoke limited edition ball designs – this is a true art form – Creative Soccer Culture arguably at its purest. Each drop is different, with unique constructions and materials used. Wheatley uses his social media account as a public R&D lab, experimenting with ball ideas in public. If a ball resonates it will occasionally graduate the lab and become available in limited release through 12 Pentagons. And the latest is now upon us, with the reveal of the 32 Bit Mesh ball.
The 32 Bit Mesh ball is 12 Pentagons’ most complex ball yet, crafted with premium Italian leather and constructed with almost double the number of panels as their first ball. It features180 hand-stitched polygons, combined to form an intricate mesh. Ultimately, it’s a shape that’s easy to construct in a digital world, but much harder in our physical reality. In 12 Pentagons’ own words “An absurd way to construct a ball, really”. But therein lies the beauty. If something’s easy, it’s not really worth doing. Look closer at the collection of triangles though, and you’ll find a classic 32 panel ball hiding inside of it. The trick is to look for the cluster of triangles that combine to make a pentagon, then you can adjust your eyes and reveal the 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons.
Only 1,000 of the 32 Bit Mesh balls have been made, each individually numbered, and once they’re gone, they’re gone.
The 32 Bit Mesh Ball drops on 4 December at 9am CST only at 12p.com. Ships in time for Christmas.
