The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 is set to revamp the competition into a truly global event that will bring together the best club sides from across the globe. Here we take a closer look at the intricate detail behind the design of the tournament’s new trophy.
The FIFA Club World Cup has always been something of a side note for the individual confederation’s champions to compete in, squeezed in every year around December time, making what was already a busy schedule of fixtures even busier. Well that’s all set to change now, with the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 ushering in a new era of premium club competition for teams across the globe. What is technically the 21st edition of the competition is now the inaugural edition of the new quadrennial format, bringing together the most successful club sides from each of the six international confederations: AFC, CAF, Concacaf, CONMEBOL, OFC and UEFA – 32 teams battling it out from 15 June to 13 July in a proper World Cup format, just with your favourite clubs instead of countries. And it needs a trophy to match the prestige. Step forward an amazing new design from FIFA, brought to life by Tiffany & Co.
So, the FIFA Club World Cup trophy will be held aloft for the first time after the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 final at MetLife Stadium in New York, New Jersey on Sunday, 13 July 2025. In a global city and before a global audience, a new football artefact will be elevated as the most cherished prize in the global club game. Here, we take a deep dive into the trophy itself, revealing all the details of the intricate design that’s been 10 months in the making.
The distinctive design consists of a central disc and three outer rings, each laser-engraved on both sides with text and imagery portraying the rich history and culture of football.
Designed by FIFA, inspiration for the trophy is multifaceted: the famous Voyager Golden Records carried on NASA’s Voyager deep-space missions in the 1970s, the periodic table, maps of pioneering journeys and astronomy each played a role in the trophy’s conceptualisation. But at its heart is football’s journey, and that’s represented through an array of icons and images that capture the game’s traditions and history, including stadiums, equipment and the original Laws of the Game from 1863, all captured on the central disc and first ring.
Football’s past and present are further illustrated by symbols that show the positions of the celestial bodies in our solar system on the date of FIFA’s founding in Paris, France on 21 May 1904 and that of the opening game of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in Miami, USA on 15 June 2025.
The trophy is made of gold vermeil and its surface is laser-engraved on both sides with text and imagery that portray football’s rich history and timeless artefacts.
From the inscription of all 211 member associations, to the engraving of “Football Unites the World” in Braille and 13 languages (ancient Greek, Arabic, English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish), there’s been nothing left sparing when it comes to the attention to detail.
And for the winners, of course there’s a special message that begins: “To those who hold this trophy, history belongs to you! You are witness to a moment in time that represents the pinnacle of club football, bestowed upon few but celebrated by many. This trophy is a symbol of greatness that honours our legends of the past, whilst inspiring triumphs of the present and arousing hopes for the future…”
Space is available to laser-engrave the emblems of the winning clubs for 24 editions of the tournament, taking this trophy’s usage to nearly 100 years, to around the 2121 mark if our math is correct.
“The trophy had to be innovative, inclusive, ground-breaking and truly global, as this competition is," explained Gianni Infantino, FIFA President. "The aim was to make it a symbol of a new era in global club football, to be daring and bold when it comes to its format and design, whilst highlighting the prestige with timeless gold, as we kick off the most inclusive and merit-based club competition in the world. The FIFA Club World Cup trophy – a remarkable equivalent to our iconic FIFA World Cup – is a revolutionary symbol of a bright, new future for club football, inspired by the past.”
