The latest drop from Orlando Pride’s Custom Kit Series sees British designer Sophie Hird saddle up with a sharp, Western twist on the club’s vibrant 2024 Citrus Kit. Reimagined as a handmade Western-style shirt, the piece pays homage to Florida’s iconic citrus industry while boldly redefining what football fashion can look like.
For those unfamiliar, the Orlando Pride Custom Kit Series is a boundary-pushing project that fuses football with global artistry. Each season, handpicked creatives rework the club’s jersey into bespoke, one-of-a-kind pieces—blurring the lines between sport and style. It’s wearable art with purpose, proudly displayed across Orlando Health facilities in Central Florida. To date, we've had The Football Gal, aka Diana Al Shammari's take on The Luna Kit in 2022, English artist and designer Christian Jeffery's spin on the 2023 Highway Woman kit, and then BloodIn BloodOut's Marta 100 Match Anniversary mash up kit in October 2023. Now, British designer Sophie Hird becomes the fourth instalment in the project, with her unique Western-inspired take on this season's Citrus Kit.
Hird, known for her deep love of vintage sportswear and a fearless approach to upcycling, brings a fresh perspective to the Pride’s ongoing collaboration with global artisans. A graduate of London College of Fashion, her résumé reads like a who’s-who of the fashion-meets-football world—adidas, Nike, Umbro, Selfridges, and UEFA all included.
This fourth instalment in the Custom Kit Series turns heads with its unexpected juxtapositions: pearl snap buttons, contrast piping, and a yoke design that’s all rodeo swagger, layered over the zesty orange palette of the Pride’s on-pitch aesthetic. The campaign, starring defender Cori Dyke, was fittingly shot at WB Equestrian Center in Sanford, FL—sealing the Western vibe.
Backed by long-time partner Orlando Health, each one-of-one piece from the Custom Kit series lives on in a dedicated exhibit across their Central Florida facilities. As always, this isn’t just kit culture—it’s art, identity, and a nod to football’s ever-expanding creative frontier.
