Creative studio Saudade House recruit Jéssica Silva to explore the Portuguese star’s personal style and introduce Portuguese culture to a wider audience. Inspired by Portuguese creative, José de Almada-Negreiros, the project narrows in on spotlighting the country’s traditions and lifestyle through the lens of art and contemporary fashion.
Founded by Chief Creative at Virginia Dream FC Lucas Mendes and Jared Soares, new creative studio Saudade House are dedicated to bringing the culture of their founder’s heritage to a world-wide audience, interpreting through photography and design. Mendes and Soares are both Portuguese-American and show a deep loyalty to the Portuguese that makes up their identity, which they express through this latest project.
"Os objetos sentimentais que mantemos sempre conosco ajaduam-nos a sentir chegados a quem amamos. Círuculos são conexões, tal como uma bola tem o poder de criar uma comunidade global."
"The tender artifacts that we carry keep us close to the ones we love. Circles are connection, the same as how a ball can create a community across the entire globe."
Their most recent project brings them together with Portuguese International and Gotham FC winger, Jéssica Silva. Silva is no stranger to creative expression on and off the pitch, showing her flair and skill during 90 minutes to then rocking her own unique style outside the stadium walls. Saudade House have chosen to tell a story about Jéssica’s lifestyle through this project, highlighting culture and heritage fused with contemporary fashion.
Shot by Jared Soares, Silva was photographed in stunning ‘Federação Portuguesa De Futebol’ archive pieces which fit into her distinctive style and preferences. The set, inspired by the work of Portuguese futurist artist José de Almada-Negreiros, pays homage to the traditions of Portuguese culture. The backdrop suggests an adaptation to the renowned Azulejo tiles – painted tin-glazed ceramic tilework that is often found on the interior and exterior of important buildings across the country, often in blue and white. The national flower of Portugal, Lavender, appears in frame of multiple shots – a nod to the Alentejo where you can find farms growing fields of Lavender.
BTS of the shoot lets us in on a closer look of the artistic design behind each shot, blending ideas from all the creatives on set with Jéssica herself – creating a culturally significant project for us all to appreciate and adore.
Um projeto muito lindo.
