Bringing all the vibes from 2002 into 2024, Nike and Travis Scott pulled out all the stops at ComplexCon this weekend, plucking the nostalgia strings with a Secret Tournament-style event, complete with Luise Figo, Edgar Davids, and, of course, the returning T90.
For those not in the know, ComplexCon is a festival hosted in Las Vegas commemorating creativity and streetwear through innovation and partnership, and this year, Nike’s been making waves at the event. One such partnership for them came courtesy of long-time brand collaborator, Travis Scott, who pulled out all the stops for ‘Secreto Maximus’ – a throwback street-street-style tournament hosted in a bespoke street football arena dubbed the ‘Cactus Colosseum’.
Repackaged it may have been, but there’s no pulling the wool over our eyes: this was the Secret Tournament reborn. Cages, small-sided games, Edgar Davids and Luis Figo linking up in the Scorpius FC side, and T90-vibes aplenty. Part of that came from the familiar circled aesthetics of the match ball, some from the kit designs, but most came from Davids himself, who was sporting the imminent rerelease of the Nike Air Zoom T90 III, which was confirmed to be returning earlier this year.
Designed to celebrate the release of the Nike Zoom Field Jaxx, the Cactus Colosseum space featured a curated display of Scott’s past collaborations, a soccer kit customisation studio, and street soccer challenges. But the real attention was on the caged court, and rightly so.
Right, how many of the original players can you name from the original 'Secret Tournament' ad from 2002? Find out here.
