Celebrating the beauty of Bafana Bafana, South African streetwear brand Grade have partnered with sportswear producer Laurus to create a reimagined national team jersey. The original shirt was worn in 1996 when South Africa made their debut in the African Cup of Nations.
Having previously been excluded from the Africa Cup of Nations due to apartheid, South Africa made their debut in 1996 and they did so in some style, winning the competition for the first and only time to date. That feat simply adds to the prestige of the shirt that they wore at that time; a shirt that South African streetwear brand Grade have partnered with sportswear producer Laurus to recreate.
Grade and Laurus have recreated both the home and away jerseys from the 1996 AFCON Cup — the home shirt being the one Nelson Mandela wore when Bafana Bafana lifted the trophy in 1996 — and both are available to purchase on Grade’s site. The shirts are also accompanied by a complementing apparel collection, comprised of hats, socks and a windbreaker featuring the iconic design.
