Throughout the year, Mizuno have teamed up with J-League side Nagoya Grampus to drop a series of capsule collections which paid homage to the club’s iconic ‘93 jersey, and before the final whistle blows on the project, HANON step up to the spot to put their spin on it.

The Mizuno x Nagoya Grampus project has seen the club’s ’93 jersey brought sharply back into focus, with the Japanese brand offering up a faithfully recreated rerelease as part of the Heritage Collection before also allowing us at SoccerBible to put our own contemporary spin on the design with help from Fokohaela. Now it’s the turn of HANON, who take inspiration from the club’s dolphin. See, Nagoya Grampus’s name was derived from the two most prominent symbols of Nagoya: the two golden Grampus dolphins on the top of Nagoya Castle, and the Maru-Hachi (Circle eight), the city’s official symbol. Also known as the Risso’s dolphin, this species can be seen off the coast in Scotland, which just so happens to be the home of HANON.

The Risso’s dolphin has a distinctive grey body characterised by its unique ‘scored’ markings which appear over time, so, taking inspiration from this, the HANON x Nagoya Grampus ‘93 Jersey features grey markings applied on top of a white base contrasted by grey ribbed sleeves and collar. Details include a Nagoya Grampus Eight logo located where the sponsor would traditionally be found, as well as an embroidered ‘M’ logo on the chest, and Mizuno logo on the sleeve. Dual branding appears by way of a woven patch at the hem, and there’s also a reinterpretation of Nagoya’s classic dolphin logo, which replaces the football with the HANON Flame.

To complement their take on the ‘93 Jersey, HANON have also reworked Nagoya’s ‘93 Track Jacket, which features the same iconic geometric design as the original. Taking the same elements from the jersey, a dark grey base has been applied with light grey markings to the top half, contrasted by a black bottom half. The track jacket features a full-length metal zip, two side pockets, ribbed collar and cuffs, while branding details remain the same, except the Nagoya Grampus Eight logo, which is applied to the right sleeve.
