Continuing the growth of its own in-house brand by tapping into the retro feels of what is one of the greatest archives in European football, AC Milan launch the ‘1996 Vintage Collection’, bringing back the three kits from the 95/96 season re-designed with a contemporary twist.
In the 1995/96 season, AC Milan won their 15th Scudetto, the Rossoneri's first league title success in the three-points-per-win era. It was the club’s fourth in five years with Fabio Capello as a coach and the last in Franco Baresi's splendid career. The 95/96 season was also the first in which Serie A footballers wore personalised jerseys with their surnames and squad numbers on the back, marking another huge milestone in modern jersey culture. And so it is this special season that comes into focus for AC Milan’s latest vintage capsule, which recreates the three shirts from that campaign as a tribute to the Club's tradition and iconic style, underlining the Rossoneri’s efforts to engage fans, especially younger generations, through fashion.
The three shirts in question are absolute classics, embodying the 90s design that is so in vogue today. The Home kit – the iconic Red and Black – was worn on 28 April 1996 when AC Milan were crowned Champions of Italy with a win over Fiorentina. The classic collar sits above the returning Opel sponsor, which is obviously present on all three shirts.
The white Away strip is one of the greatest in the club’s history, favoured by fans across the globe. The simple execution of the Rossoneri colours on the white base has often been replicated, but seldom bettered.
Then, rounding off the set is the yellow Third kit, which entered into the hearts of all Milanisti the previous season after it was worn when Milan won the European Supercup. Bright and bold with the trim on collar and cuff and that sublimated graphic that runs throughout – Bellissimo!
