Rolling the clock back to an era when the club were on the cusp of rediscovering success on the pitch, adidas Originals have dropped a retro Manchester United clothing collection, which features recreations of the 1990/92 team shirt and Keeper shirt.
While it’s been a tough time on the pitch for Manchester United recently, fans will be hoping that the appointment of incoming manager Erik ten Haag and the inevitable squad overhaul will herald a return to form that will see the club challenging for the top honours once more, much like the era that has inspired this collection, 1990/92, the season that preceded United winning their first of seven consecutive league titles.
OK, so anyone being realistic about it will know that United have a long way to go before they get even close to the standards of Ferguson’s legendary side of the 90s, but fans can live in hope, and if nothing else this collection acts as a nostalgia-laden reminder of better times.
Chief among the pieces in this nine-piece collection are the faithful recreations of the 90/92 shirt and GK shirt, both of which come complete with the iconic adidas Trefoil logo and the club crest that was in use in that period. Both designs encapsulate the glory of the golden age of shirt design and certainly wouldn’t look out of place in the modern day – an era when the thirst for all things 90s seemingly can’t be quenched.
The retro shirts are joined by a full length two-piece tracksuit, sweatshirts, tees and shorts, all of which have also been lifted from the 90s.

We delved deep into our archives and drew a lot of inspiration from magazine sales catalogues from those years and their unique aesthetic and vibe.
“Our partnership with the club goes back a long way, so we wanted to take the opportunity to really reflect on some of that history and bring a small piece of the heritage to the modern day with a retro collection that celebrates the relationship and culture that surrounds it.”
