adidas Launches Retro Originals Collections For National Federations

Turning things back to pre millennium, adidas has dropped its latest Originals Football Collection, featuring throwback, lifestyle-ready versions of some of its leading federations’ jerseys and training apparel from past decades.

While we’re arguably in a golden era for jersey culture and shirt design, you can’t help but cast an admiring eye back at decades gone by – it’s why so many current kits are inspired by classics from the past. So it’s always a welcome sight when brands bring back those OG classics, and that’s exactly what adidas have done, dusting off iconic looks from the 1970s, 80s and 90s to fit into the current street style for a new generation that increasingly embraces football culture in their daily wardrobe.

Featuring Federations such as Spain, Germany, Italy, Argentina and Mexico, the jerseys in the collection are recreated in looks alone, boasting a completely different fit, fabric and trim compared to their original replica counterparts, prioritising lifestyle aesthetic over sports performance.

Within the collection is the DFB home and away jerseys rekindle memories of the great German team that won Euro ’96.

The Spain collection also draws influence from the iconic 1996 tournament, while Argentina goes back a couple of years to the 1994 USA World Cup. Mexico then goes further back again, with a design inspired by the classic, mid-80s look which preceded the 1986 FIFA World Cup in their homeland.

In addition to jerseys and training wear, adidas is launching the Adicolor capsule collection of 1970s-inspired tracksuits, t-shirts and shorts, in the colours of 10 adidas partner federations across UEFA and CONMEBOL.

The designs for the European federations are available to purchase today at prodirectsport.com/soccer, with the Latin American federations launching on 1 December.
