Ahead of the 2023 MLS Cup this Saturday, set to be contested by Columbus and LAFC, the League announced the unveiling of a capsule collaboration with streetwear brand STAPLE, founded by creative visionary Jeff Staple.
Breaking new ground with an inaugural collection that takes the achievement of reaching the MLS Cup final to a lifestyle scene, MLS have recruited the help of STAPLE for this new collection. Paying homage to the rich history and prestige of Major League Soccer, the capsule takes inspiration from vintage soccer graphics and the iconic hues of the Phillip F. Anschutz trophy—silver, gold, and black.
The capsule consists of two t-shirts, a hoodie, a crewneck sweatshirt and a rugby polo, as well as accessories such as a cap and scarf. Let’s face facts though: this is likely to be coveted mainly by Columbus and LAFC fans at this stage, given that it is they who are fighting for glory on Saturday. After that, it will probably only be one set of fans who are interested. But that doesn’t detract from the laid back style of the collection, offering the first-time fans will have the opportunity to sport MLS Cup themed apparel.
“We are thrilled to have a renowned streetwear brand like STAPLE along for the ride for what will mark the end of another exciting season in Major League Soccer,” said Rachel Hoagland, MLS SVP of Consumer Products. “This special collection is the latest evolution of the League’s commitment to spotlighting the creativity in our sport and connecting soccer with progressive fashion offerings.”
“It’s a huge honour to collaborate with Major League Soccer, the largest soccer organisation in the United States, to bring streetwear culture to the pitch!” says Jeff Staple. “This collection embodies the winning spirit of the Philip F. Anschutz Trophy, and we hope fans wear it with pride as we celebrate the next champion.”
