adidas Originals Launch Jamaica Capsule

Building off of last year’s incredibly strong start to life together, Adidas have revealed a new Originals Jamaica clothing collection, and it perfectly combines the nation’s reggae roots with a throwback vibe.

Late last year adidas launched retro Originals collections for its National Federations, bringing back some iconic shapes from the archive. One of the key criteria for qualification into this exclusive group was having been a Three Stripes team back along, giving an instant pass to the likes of Germany, Italy, Argentina and Mexico. But Jamaica have only just finished their first-ever year with adidas, meaning there was no history from which to mine. That didn’t stop a sneaky retro t-shirt featuring in the collection though, and now adidas turn that vintage lens fully onto the Caribbean nation, with a dedicated lifestyle capsule.

Released on 6 February to honour legendary Jamaican artist Bob Marley’s birthday, The capsule is infused with the distinctive style and energy of the Reggae Boyz and Reggae Girlz. It sees a lineup of tracksuits and tees presented in the same throwback style that many clubs and federations have been enjoying over the last few months, complete with the iconic Trefoil branding in place to mark out its status. And that retro feel lends itself perfectly to this Jamaica collection, which is presented in the bold green, yellow and black national  colours.

The tracksuit stands out as one of the highlights of the collection, with a green base joined by black accents and a yellow band running down the sleeves, something that's replicated on the track pants.

The yellow takes on a more prominent role in one of the tees, with a diagonal graphic along with the green and black. The final tee then comes in a black base with yellow Three Stripes on the shoulders and green collar and cuffs.

In addition to the traditional adicolor t-shirt, trackpants and tracktop, the capsule also includes a unique windbreaker.

All in, it's more evidence of how Jamaica can be a real canvas for creativity for adidas, and it still feels like we're only just scratching the surface of the potential of this pairing.
