A pioneer of sportswear since 1914, Admiral Sportswear returns with a partnership with Jonnie’s Bodega to release the ‘Playmakers’ collection. The new capsule consists of a ‘home’ and ‘away’ kit, both inspired to celebrate the iconic ‘number 10’.
Admiral x Jonnie's Bodega is a collaboration that comes as no shock to us, with the British Sporting label often teaming up with urban fashion brands – most recently, the partnership with Killa Villa for the ‘Villains’ limited-edition capsule. The alliance with Jonnie’s Bodega is designed to reignite and celebrate the famed ‘number 10’, a shirt number historically earned by being the most skilful playmaker on the pitch. Just like a playmaker, the kits are intended to radiate flair and creativity whilst still maintaining the essence of both brands
Jonnie’s Bodega is a small streetwear brand from Kuala Lumpa, commonly known as ‘the most unheard-of neighbourhood corner store’, with a focus on urban aesthetic. Often showing an interest in blending lifestyle-goods with the love for football, this newest collab with Admiral solidifies their name in the football-fashion market.
Over the years we have seen some legendary players wear the number 10 shirt: Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho, Zidane, Maradona and Pele are just a few on a list of iconic names. Although the role of the ‘10’ seems diminished within the modern game, the concept of a playmaker applies to anyone in their own way. Admiral and Jonnie’s Bodega want to re-inspire this generation to find their way of being a playmaker and celebrate the history of the ‘number 10’ and the iconic players who have worn it.
The ’Home’ kit takes inspiration from the kit of Admirals home, the England national team, whilst including subtle detailing of Bodega’s branding throughout. It’s revealed in a classic England white with the discrete shimmered stripes joined with navy piping down the sleeves, inspiration perhaps from the 2002 England home shirt which has similar features. The navy shade also engulfs the collar and sleeve cuffs. Of course, the shirt features the renowned number 10 on the back.
As for the ‘away’ kit, both brands decided to create a modern classic with a colourway which stays grounded out of rivalry bias yet stands out enough to be a lifestyle favourite. The shirt comes in a deep green with white piping stripes vertically down the front, keeping a minimalistic approach with just a classic fold over collar being the main feature. They show the love for the centralised crest and logo here, often a favourite amongst fans when done right.
