WE:FC have joined with partners Hummel and Rewe to design a retro-inspired jersey as part of the ‘Kölsche Originale’ (Cologne Originals) range within 1. FC Köln. This jersey is inspired by the importance of pub-culture within Cologne and their love for the fanbase.
WE:FC is the young lifestyle brand of 1. FC Köln, created to bridge the gap between football culture and contemporary fashion. The brand wanted to design a jersey combining Cologne’s rich football tradition with the lifestyle of the new generation. Taking this lifestyle onto the streets and into the clubs, pubs and ‘Büdchen’ of Cologne, WE:FC worked with Hummel and Rewe to craft a jersey uniting both the past and future of FC Köln.
For the campaign, the brand wanted to remain with a ‘Cologne Originals’ philosophy, thus choosing to pair the jerseys with true Kölsche men and women rather than the typical models involved in most shoots. Again sticking to their roots, WE:FC also wanted the main focus behind the shirt to be on paying tribute to the pub-culture that surrounds the club and fan base. Pubs are where the hearts of FC fans beat the loudest, which is why the jersey will be first available in a handful of pubs across Cologne. A beautiful act to show the love for the real fan base and its culture.
Now to focus on the jersey itself. The Hummel shirt comes in a classy colourway, transforming the original white and red of the club, into a rich cream and maroon colour combination. Inspired by ‘retro’, the jersey possesses an oversized fit with the cream body finished in a waffle-like structure, similar to those in the 90’s. Both the Hummel and Rewe logos are fashioned in a deep maroon, along with the vintage fold-over collar and sleeve cuff detailing. The classic Hummel arrows are also present in the same maroon shade, as a minimalistic detail on the sleeves. Not to forget the featured embroidered logo, where WE:FC have chosen to use the retro FC logo from the 50’s rather than the current. Perfectly completes the shirt in my humble opinion.
