Kappa Join Forces With Acne Studios To Design Innovative Capsule Collection

Kappa and Acne Studios have teamed up to design a capsule collection fusing modern streetwear with everyday sports apparel. The partnerships signifies the growth of the athleisure wear market and trend of blending high fashion with casual or athletic styles.

Kappa, a brand known for its sportswear heritage particularly in the 90’s and 00’s, have teamed up with high fashion brand Acne Studios – popular for their minimalistic and contemporary design ethos – to create a capsule collection. The two are looking to bridge the gap between sportswear and streetwear/high fashion with a collection that perfectly blends each market together. With the growing popularity of athletic styles, it is no surprise to see a collection of this magnitude.

“I have always loved Kappa. Rebels wear Kappa, which appeals to me – it’s sportswear for the cool kids. In a world where the lines between classic workwear, streetwear, ready-to-wear and sportswear are blurred, it feels totally natural for Acne Studios to collaborate with Kappa on a collection that represents a modern way of dressing,” says Jonny Johansson, Creative Director of Acne Studios.

The campaign shoot for the collection features a dark, moody aethetic – appealing to Acne Studios nonchalant appeal. The pieces are captured on British record producer and musician Tricky and lensed by Jordan Hemingway All shots sit in a dark stone background that allows the pops of colour off some of the pieces come to life. Playing into the brand’s minimalistic style, most of the pieces of the collection feature block colours (mostly monochrome) where oversized fits are joint by bold Kappa Omini logos. Other pieces, including long sleeve jerseys, contradict the monochrome looks of the others by standing alone in smooth pinks and blue.

One of the standout pieces of the collection comes as a sport-inspired casual shoe. Designed with web-like patterns, the shoe fashions a black and white look with a fold over tongue, giving that T90/Predator football boot vibe. The tongue Is stamped with a large Omini logo on one shoe, and the Acne Studios branding can be found on the other. Another nod to the beautiful game can be seen on the outsole, where stud-like patterns feature all across. This is nothing short of a piece of art from the two brands.
