UMBRO Pay Homage To Manchester Roots With SS25 'Northern Quarter' Collection

Umbro have unveiled their latest collection and campaign for summer ’25 with ‘Northern Quarter’ – a collection inspired by the authenticity and creativity of the brand’s home city Manchester. The latest drop brings sports heritage up to date with casual street-savvy swagger.

Umbro and the Northern Quarter go way back, with it being the location where the idea of Umbro was started. Here, the founder, Harold Humphrys, learnt everything the textile industry could teach him and inspired him to start his own brand – giving us the Umbro we know and love today. Since then, Umbro have been shaping the global landscape of sportswear, defining style both on and off the pitch. Partnerships with the likes of Palace, Supreme and Aries have solidified Umbro’s presence within the sports fashion industry and continued their growing influence on streetwear.

The brand now brings it back to their roots for summer ’25, pulling inspiration from the Northern Quarter to celebrate Manchester’s established culture and reputation. The ‘Northern Quarter’ collection reinterprets archive classic through a contemporary lens, perfectly fusing Manchester’s streetwear culture with Umbro’s rich football heritage. The campaign supporting the collection was shot by Jay Johnson and shines a spotlight on the Northern Quarter’s new generation, each shot embodying the creative, entrepreneurial and inclusive spirit of the area.

“Umbro has always had Manchester in its DNA”, comments Helene Hope, Head of Global Brand Marketing at Umbro. “This collection is no different, taking inspiration from the spirit of the Northern Quarter to make sportwear classics relevant for streetwear fanatics today.”

The collection sees some of Umbro’s most iconic pieces, such as the 90’s drill tops and the 1998 England track jacket, and reworks them for the next generation of football fashion lovers. One of the hero pieces of the collection, the Zip Off Sleeve Wind Jacket features new removable sleeves and a concealed hood, transforming the silhouette of a classic piece into a unique take on the archives. The Washed Drill Top and Diamond Drill Sweat directly reference the renowned ‘90’s drill tops, perfectly embodying the design personality of the Northern Quarter collection by employing the spirit of creative renewal in Manchester and using it to update Umbro’s most cherished designs.

The full 'Northern Quarter' collection will be available 13 March at umbro.co.uk
