Barcelona are the latest club to make strides away from the beautiful game with the help of the Swoosh, as the Catalan giants transition from pitch to pavement with two pairs of Nike Epic React Flyknit 2 by FC Barcelona running shoes.
Barcelona is an incredibly popular destination for runners, probably something to do with the glorious warm weather and fantastic scenery. It plays host to numerous running events, including marathons, and as such has found an abundance of running clubs increasing in popularity. And it also has a pretty good football team, in case you hadn’t heard. As part of its latest sporting crossover, Nike, together with the help of Barca youth product Sergi Roberto, has launched the Epic React Flyknit 2 by FC Barcelona in two separate colourways, matching the Catalan club's home and away kits.
Having spent all of his adolescence and young adult life in Barcelona, Sergi Roberto is only too aware of the running culture the city has to offer, as well as the importance of running to his game. When speaking about the shoe he said: “I do enjoy running. I run a bit more than my team-mates because I know I need my legs to be active because during the game, I’m going to have to run that extra mile to help the team win. The Nike React is a performance shoe, but they also have a lot of style. These are shoes I could easily use every day.”
The release of the Barcelona Epic React Flyknit 2 follows last week’s launch of the PSG version. Perennial trendsetters that Paris Saint-Germain are, they’re never afraid to go where others haven’t, and now Barcelona are only too happy to follow. The home kit coloured sneaker sees the Swoosh adopting the famous Barca stripes, with the club logo on the tongue, while the sneaker that takes on the away colouring sticks solely to solar yellow across the upper, the only break coming in the crest which again appears on the tongue. Both sneakers ride in on a react midsole for a smooth and comfortable feel, whether clocking up the miles or simply wearing socially.
Both colourways of the Nike Epic React by FC Barcelona will be available from Barca's Camp Nou store March 29 and selected retailers from April 2 including Nike.com as part of "Made by You".
