Nike have finally announced an official drop date for their signature collection of Shox R4 Neymar JR sneakers which are inspired by the Brazilian forward's childhood relationship with the Swoosh. Landing in a duo of statement colourways, both designs will hit stores on May 30.
"They were like a shoe of the future," recalls Neymar JR. For him, the Shox R4 was the shoe he desired growing up, and now he's got two signature designs that feature his own name and logo. The first colourway follows on the metallic detailing and reflective elements of the launch colorway back in 2000 and still packs that sci-fi aesthetic and aggressive stance.
The second colourway is the standout from the pack and it comes with another deeper meaning as it mirrors the hues of a watermelon; the vibrant gradient design connects directly to the buzzing markets around São Paulo that were a constant in Neymar JR's childhood. Both designs include the trademark "Shock Absorber" elements under the heel to celebrate one of Nike's most iconic streetwear silhouettes, while the "Shox" logo is tilted to create the 'N' as a further call-out to the PSG striker.
The collection has been in the works for a while, Nike have made no secret of that. Neymar has worn them a few times in the past months, while Drake has also stepped out in them this month during his latest Vegas set. But now we have a date – May 30.
The Nike Shox R4 Neymar JR sneakers will be available at prodirectselect.com from May 30.
