Nike Drop "Black/Gold" Neymar Shox Update

Nike and Neymar Jr. move their signature Shox collaboration onto a third colourway as the Swoosh are set to release a "Black/Gold" edition of their re-invigorated sneakers series. A crisp colour pairing of low-key style, with pops of gold complementing the all black upper.

Following on from the duo of launch designs that dropped in May, Nike and Neymar are back with a follow-up aesthetic to continue a series that's inspired by the Brazilian forward's childhood relationship with the Swoosh. "They were like a shoe of the future," recalls Neymar. For him, the Shox R4 was the shoe he desired growing up, and now he's got two signature designs that feature his own name and logo. Just like that.

The Shox line was one of the most hyped Nike series at the turn of the millennium when Neymar was growing up, but has had a relatively low-key presence since its retro revival. Now, Nike look to throw the Shox onto the main stage as they position the PSG striker as a player who can influence the younger audience and thrive in a streetwear scene that Cristiano Ronaldo, who was their key man for so long, didn't quiet hit as naturally as Neymar does. This is a series that Nike see legs in, and more NJR x Shox editions will drop throughout 2019.

Dressed in black, the dark mesh upper is overlaid by a black plastic cage to bring a new dynamic in comparison to the debut R4 releases. Gold and silver highlights feature on the lace loops, Swooshes and the trademark Shox cushioning system on the heel. Once again, the Shox logo is rotated 90 degrees to turn the “Z” into an “N,” and the sneaker is completed with a special Neymar print on the insole. An understated and stylish alternative to the all white and watermelon debut drops below.

The Neymar Jr. x Nike Shox “Black/Gold” drops on July 13. Shop the full NJR x Nike Shox collection at prodirectselect.com
