SoccerBible Gospels: Vote For Your Speed Boot of the Season 08/09

SoccerBible Gospels: Vote For Your Speed Boot of the Season 08/09

Over 200 countries are voting in this year's Gospels... One World, One Game.

Speed Boot Winner: Nike Mercurial Vapor SL Citron

The ninth colour option release for the Vapor IV, the Citron SL's were arguably the most popular of all the Vapor IV editions and won the Speed boots category with twice as many votes as its nearest rival!

This contender from Nike's Mercurial speed series saw the launch of this vibrant Citron green colourway. Nike set about promoting this boot with a striking "pack" mentality - over one Champions League gameweek these football boots were every where, from Ibrahimovic to Ronaldo, Ribery to Arshavin. The SL (SuperLight) versions were even more popular, as players in nearly every domestic league upgraded to this colourway (and some still are today!).

Speed Boot Runner-Up: Nike Mercurial Vapor IV Rosa/Berry

The cause of much commotion around November, as Nike unveiled a radical and controversial colourway of the hugely popular Vapor IV. Initially, this was the proverbial Marmite of football boots - you either loved it or hated it - and caused a media stir as Arsenal's Nicklas Bendtner debuted the vivid pink football boots. The boots were also worn by Bayern Munich's French star Franck Ribery, who went one stage further and emulated the classic Pink Panther cartoon for the release of these iconic boots.

Featuring all the sleek, light and performance features that have made the Vapor IV the success they are today, these particular boots took second place in the speed category.

Speed Boot 3rd Place: Nike Mercurial Vapor V Max Orange

Yet another nomination from Nike, this time in the shape of the recently released Vapor V - one of the most anticipated football boot releases of recent times. With such a strong pedigree to follow, speculation was rife about the new Vapor edition and the verdict is that Nike have not disappointed! Some argue the looks of the boot are too similar to its' predecessor, but the new Flywire technology and subtle tweaks have certainly not hampered this boot's popularity.

Perhaps these football boots hadn't spent enough time on the pitch, as this late entry finished 3rd.

Speed Boot 4th Place: adidas F50.9 TUNiT Messi

What do you give the best player in the world? His own boots of course! Like Brazil's Ronaldo and Ronaldinho before him, fellow South American Lionel Messi sports his own customised versions of the popular adidas F50.9. Featuring the Barca man's name logo and unique colour combination, the Messi TUNiT's have proven to be even more popular with boot fans.

Of course, we all know Messi prefers to wear a customised fixed stud version similar to the F30, but that doesn't stop this boot being one of the most requested of the season, coming in at 4th.

Speed Boot 5th Place: adidas F50.9 TUNiT Black/Yellow

A radical new design to the adidas F50.9 with the upper incorporating a revised clear heel counter, pro standard lace cover and digital-style graphics, the new F50.9 found many fans from players upgrading from previous F50's to players experiencing the modular boot for the first time.

The boot of choice for Premier League players like Emmaunel Adebayor, Ashley Young, Shaun Wright-Phillips and more, surprisingly only finished 5th!

Speed Boot 6th Place: Puma v1.08 Pink

Riding high on the shock-colour wave, Puma released the v1.08 Pink and duly put French striker Nicolas Anelka as the spearhead for the boots. In a dramatic ad campaign, Anelka was "kidnapped" to promote the boots ahead of their UEFA Champions League debut.

Arguably more subtle than it's Mercurial rival, the light weight nature and construction of this v1.08 still drew many fans and plaudits across the globe, but it could only manage 6th place!
