ALONSO OUT, CATTERMOLE IN?


- Liverpool have given Real Madrid 48 hours to complete the signing of Xabi Alonso, with the Spanish giants set to make an improved bid of between £28million and £30million. (The Times)

- Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez will use the money from the Alonso deal to fund two shock signings. Keen to add more English players to his squad Benitez is preparing a £12million bid for Wigan midfielder Lee Cattermole and will offer Hull £5.5million for defender Michael Turner. - Aston Villa are monitoring forward Robbie Keane's situation at Tottenham after the arrival of fellow striker Peter Crouch, they are also keen on striker Darren Bent who could be available for £15million. (Daily Mail)

- West Ham and England defender Matthew Upson is being targeted by Villa, who are poised to make a £12million bid as they are keen to pair Upson with Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin, who is closing in on a £4.5million transfer. (Daily Mirror)
