SoccerBible Debate - Best Player in the Premier League - Drogba or Rooney?


The results from our SoccerBible poll are in! This season in the Premier League there have been two stand-out performers - Didier Drogba and Wayne Rooney. So we asked the SoccerBible fans who THEY thought was the best player, and now we can unveil the results from the weekend's voting...

SoccerBible fans voted Wayne Rooney as the winner with a huge majority that surprised us, Rooney was clearly the more popular choice claiming 61% of the votes!


Wayne Rooney and Didier Drogba are two of the biggest stars in the Premier League, and when they are at their best they are untouchable! Wayne Rooney has emerged as Manchester United's key player following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, and has been in superb goalscoring form. As has Didier Drogba, who has led the Chelsea attack and the Chelsea team to the top of the Premier League, with some excellent performances in key games.

To help you decide between Didier Drogba or Wayne Rooney, we will look at how the players match-up statistically in the 09/10 Premier League, their season highlight so far and their boot choice. Then we want to know who you think is the best player in the Premier League...





Wayne Rooney has played a few more games than Didier Drogba this season in the Premier League, which could count for why Rooney has hit the back of the net on more occasions. Rooney seems keen to fire in as many shots as possible, notching up 147 so far this season! Although Drogba seems to be more accurate, with less shots in total but more on target.





Arsenal 0-3 Chelsea (Drogba 2 goals)
Didier Drogba was in inspired form at the Emirates Stadium, causing problems and scoring two great goals. His first came as he continued his excellent record against Arsenal and side footed into the far corner, his second put the game beyond doubt when he expertly finished from a free-kick 25-yards out.



Manchester United 4-0 Hull City (Rooney 4 goals)
Wayne Rooney scored four goals in a fantastic performance. The England striker put the Red Devils one up after just eight minutes, Rooney then made Hull pay with three late goals which temporarily lifted United to top spot in the Premier League. Rooney battled hard throughout the game, and despite the other 21 players on the pitch took command.
