Theo Walcott's Speed Bursts makes him Sprint Contender

He made an explosive impact from the bench wearing Nike Mercurial Superfly II football boots, and Theo Walcott's lightning fast speed burst during the Arsenal-Barcelona Champions League tie would make him a 100m sprint contender!

Stat and sprint experts have anaylsed Walcott's pace when he scored the first of the Gunners' goals against Barca, tracking the Englishman's movements at an impressive 10.1m per second.

As the move for the goal started, Walcott covered 28.9m in a blisteringly-quick 2.84 seconds, racing around the outside of Barcelona full back Maxwell who must've been wondering what had happened!

What that means in relative terms is if Theo could keep up his pace for a duration of a 100m sprint, his time would be an incredible 9.9 seconds! Wearing the new Nike Mercurial Superfly II football boots - designed to aid raw acceleration and pure speed - this time would have made the Arsenal star a serious contender in the World Championships 100m, although he would still be chasing the heels of the World's Fastest man Usain Bolt!

Ok, so he might not stand much of a chance against Bolt, but in footballing terms Walcott is peerless. The Castol Football Index have produced data showing Walcott is the Premier League's fastest, with a top speed calculated at 22.72 mph - 0.5mph faster than Didier Drogba and Fernado Torres.

So, with Barcelona forced to field a makeshift defence due to suspensions to both Puyol and Pique, in the Champions League second leg at the Camp Nou. Should the Catalan giants be fearing Theo Walcott's blistering pace, is he the man who can turn this tie around?
