SoccerBible World Cup Update - 12/06/10

Day 2 of the 2010 World Cup, and the excitement is still hitting fever pitch after the opening days' ceremony and matches. Check out the SoccerBible's view on the South Africa tournament!

South Africa provided us with a fitting opening ceremony, before the first of the days two matches got underway and the tournament kicked off...

What a way to start the World Cup! South Africa erupted when Siphiwe Tshabalala's screamer hit the top corner to give the Bafana Bafanas a glorious lead ten minutes into the second half.

Tshabalala, wearing the Nike CTR360 Elite Football Boots (how good do they look on pitch?!) wrote his name down in football history with a strike of such force and accuracy, it almost took a second for him to realise what he had done! Pretty good goal celebration, too.

Mexico rallied and grabbed a deserved equaliser through Marquez, even though South Africa had a chance to win the tie late on when Katlego Mphela hit the post.

It's Football vs Soccer - England v USA (Group C)

Sorry South Korea, Greece, Argentina and Nigeria - there's only ONE game on our radar today. Being The battle of Football (England) against Soccer (USA) in Group C tonight certainly has our attention. And as Nike so eloquently put it last week, it's here. No More Talk!

There are plenty of boot spots and players we could choose for this match up. With Fabio Capello [at the time of posting at least] still keeping his starting 11 a closely guarded secret, we're going with vice Captain Steven Gerrard for England.

Chosen captain Rio Ferdinand is missing the tournament through injury, so all English hopes will fall to "Stevie G" - wearing the adidas Predator X World Cup football boots - to bring some of his club heroics to the international stage and run the game for the Three Lions.

Our one to watch for the USMNT is definitely in-form Edson Buddle, the LA Galaxy striker who will be looking to cause England defenders a headache. Buddle, who plays in the Nike CTR360 Elite football boots, netted twice against the Socceroos in the USA's final warm up friendly and looks likely to partner Altidore in attack.

But who will emerge victorious? Our loyalties are somewhat divided here, with SoccerBible HQ's staff made up of both En-ger-land and USMNT fans. So we're going to sit on the fence and hope that it is a draw! (you don't get out of it that easy Boot Spy - an England win please! SB Editor)
