SoccerBible World Cup Update - 07/07/10
Just two games remain to decide who will win the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and after Holland's victory over Uruguay, the Dutch will be eagerly watching tonight's semi-final between Germany and Spain to see who they will meet in the final.
It wasn't the most comfortable of victories, but in the end the Dutch constructed some impressive play to earn victory over Uruguay 3-2 in last night's semi-final. Holland are the only team to have a 100% record at the tournament winning all of their games, which is largely down to the awesome play of Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder.
There's been plenty to discuss at the World Cup, along with some interesting boot spotting, some great team play and plenty to look forward to. Check out the SoccerBible's view on the latest goings on in South Africa...

After Van Bronckhorst's wonder strike we had to feature his football boots in our boot spotting. Van Bronckhorst is playing in the Elite T90 Lasers, but interestingly like Sergio Ramos and Fernando Torres, is wearing what look like leather versions. |
Another Laser wearer, but not quite on par with his fellow professionals at the World Cup, was Diego Godin in the Laser II's. Obviously a boot that Godin feels comfortable in, it's again interesting to see another player opting for a leather upper, perhaps leather works better with the Jabulani ball? |
We were tempted to choose Uruguay's second goal as the Play of the Day, as it was an expertly worked freekick. However, Giovanni Van Bronckhorst's strike is quite possibly the goal of the tournament, so how could we not feature it as our play of the day.
Germany v Spain
Germany and Spain face each other in the semi-final of the World Cup, a rematch of the EURO 2008 final which Spain won courtesy of a Fernando Torres goal. Germany have been playing unusually stylish football, and will be playing in their eleventh World Cup semi-final, whilst for a stuttering Spain this will be their first appearance.
David Villa has been the key man for Spain this World Cup. His goals from adidas F50 adiZero football boots have made Villa joint top goalscorer, and are the reason the team have progressed. Villa is just one goal away from equalling Raul's record of 44 goals for Spain, and what better place to do it.
Miroslav Klose has in own sights on a record, as he is just one short of the all-time record held by Brazilian star Ronaldo. Klose, who plays in Nike Elite T90 Laser football boots, has scored an impressive 14 goals in 18 World Cup appearances, and Germany will be hoping his ability to convert chances can see them through to the final.
