SoccerBible World Cup Update - 12/07/10
Andres Iniesta's strike with four minutes left of extra-time fired Spain to World Cup glory for the first time in their history. It wasn't quite the footballing spectacle we were anticipating, instead it turned into quite a ferocious affair, but it was the culmination of a great World Cup.
The 2010 World Cup has been a great football event, and most football fans would have to agree the best team won. Spain's patient approach, football philosophy and belief in their ability has seen them through to World Cup victory.
There's been plenty to discuss at the World Cup, along with some interesting boot spotting, some great team play and the Golden Boot winner. Check out the SoccerBible's view on the latest goings on in South Africa...

Scorer of the winning goal in the World Cup final, we had to feature Andres Iniesta's football boots. Iniesta was one of the few big name players, wearing Nike Elite football boots, who performed and had an excellent World Cup, Iniesta controlled well before smashing the ball into the back of the net. |

The Play of the Day has to be the World Cup winning strike from Spain's Andres Iniesta. At a tournament where the big names have failed to perform, Iniesta was one of the players who stood out and had an excellent World Cup.
Despite four players finishing the tournament on five goals, it was German revelation Thomas Mueller who claimed the World Cup Golden Boot. With Mueller, David Villa, Wesley Sneijder and Diego Forlan finishing tied on five goals, the award of Golden Boot defaulted to goal assists, which Mueller claimed after setting up three German goals.
Mueller also claimed the Young Player of the Tournament award, after impressing wearing the adidas F50 adiZero football boots. The adiZero football boots have taken the tournament by storm, with Forlan and Villa also impressing in the lightweight boot.
