Battle of the Boots - Premier League

Battle of the Boots - Premier League

Every weekend the SoccerBible will choose three Premier League matches and pick players to compete in our 'Battle of the Boots'! We want to hear from YOU the fans, to discuss which players and football boots will come out on top?

Our Premier League games this week are Arsenal v Blackpool (Sat 3pm), Newcastle United v Aston Villa (Sun 1.30pm) and Manchester City v Liverpool (Mon 8pm), and here are the players battling it out...

Do Arsenal go into this one as underdogs? Blackpool are second placed in the league and top goalscorer Marlon Harewood is averaging two goals per Premier League game! Harewood banged in two goals last weekend, playing in the lightweight Elite versions of the Nike T90 Laser III football boots, to be honest though against Arsenal he could find his chances limited. Chamakh interstingly wears a pair of customised Vapor Superfly football boots, which borrow the sole-plate from the Vapor VI. Chamakh can look forward to enjoying more freedom at the Emirates than he did against Liverpool at Anfield last week.

SoccerBible verdict: It's an opportunity for new signing Chamakh to show the home fans what he's capable of, we would expect the striker to be on the scoresheet and win this battle of the boots.

Are Aston Villa and Newcastle United sleeping giants in the world of football, or have they both fallen off the radar? We'll let the fans argue that one out! But we will highlight that both Andy Carroll and Stephen Ireland are wearing speed football boots from rival brands. Andy Carroll is playing in the increasingly popular adidas F50 adiZero football boots, and has the pressure of wearing Geordie legend Alan Shearers' number. We would argue that Stephen Ireland - a big fan of the Vapor and Superfly range - is as good a player as James Milner, and the attacking midfielder will be looking to prove this on Sunday.

SoccerBible Verdict: As nice as it would be to side with the home team and player, we just think if Ireland does play then his and Villa's Premier League experience could win this battle.

A crucial game for both sides in determining the course of their season. Gerrard is the talismanic adidas Predator X wearer (who is for once wearing a colourway other than black/red!), pulling the strings in the Liverpool midfield with his deeper role under Roy Hodgson. Balotelli is a super-confident player, who was one of the original CTR360 Maestri football boots wearers, and Balotelli will be keen to impress and show what he can do against Liverpool.

SoccerBible Verdict: The closest battle to call this week. Manchester City are favourites to win the match, but we're going to go for Gerrard for individual performance, as he is the central figure in a more settled team.

So there you have our resident expert's predictions, with two victories for the Nike Vapor Superfly football boots and one for the adidas Predator X football boots, but we'd love to hear YOUR opinions on who will win this weekend's 'Battle of the Boots'...
