Boot Race 2010/11 - Premier League Football Boots

Boot Race 2010/11 - Premier League Football Boots

The adidas F50 adizero may have been the top scoring football boot at the World Cup, but after two weekends of the Barclays Premier League it is the adidas Predator X which takes a slender early lead in our Boot Race 10/11!

OK, so this isn't such a big surprise, seeing as the world's best selling football boot is the current Boot Race champion. However after such a storming showing in South Africa, the new comer is already hot on the heels and is going to be a serious contender for this season's title.

Our exclusive stats record every goal in the Premier League and the football boots worn as those goals hit the back of the net. Check out some of the contenders as the Boot Race shapes up for the season ahead...

Boot Race #1: adidas Predator X - 12 Goals

The grand daddy of them all, the adidas Predator has been the Premier League's top scoring football boot for the last 2 seasons and already sits atop the new chart. The stats show the Predator series currently boasts 9 different goal scorers, the most of any of the boots on the list - a true testament to the versatility and popularity of these boots, as midfielders, defenders and attackers all hit the net with the original power football boots.

Boot Race #2: adidas F50 adizero - 11 Goals

Thanks to some stellar individual performances so far from Andy Carroll, Gareth Bale and Salamon Kalou, the adidas F50 adizero has stormed to second place with 11 goals. And with a host of players switching to the new boots, could the World Cup dominance carry over to the Premier League? It is certainly looking that way...

Boot Race #3: Nike Mercurial - 10 Goals

At this early stage it is a single goal that slots the Nike Mercurial series into third place in the current standings - with the combined efforts of players wearing the Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly (both editions) and Vapor (and even the odd Talaria) now all pulling together, could this season see the original speed champion break the adidas dominance?

Boot Race #4: Nike CTR360 - 9 Goals

But another boot looking to break the adidas monopoly is the Nike CTR360, as worn by goal scoring heroes Florent Malouda, James Milner and new recruit Carlos Tevez. This will be the first full season in the Boot Race, and could be the dark horse as more players enjoy the benefits this control boot has to offer.

As well as the individual title, there is also the honour for Top Scoring Football Boots Brand. This title caused plenty of controversy during the World Cup, where adidas pipped Nike by a single goal - however the fans of the Swoosh will be confident of retaining their accolade of Top Scoring Brand, secured with a massive 465 goals last term.

This particular grudge match has started off close, with the combined efforts of adidas-boot wearing goalscorers edging ahead of Nike's total once again by a solitary goal 27 to 26. But remember, just like the League itself, this is a marathon not a sprint and is very much early days so far!
