As the adidas F50 adizero football boots continue to take the game by storm, SoccerBible caught up with Spain and Manchester City star David Silva to hear his opinions on his new boots, playing football, life in England and much more…

SoccerBible: What was your first impression of the adidas F50 adizero football boots?

David Silva:
I think they're great! I think they are lighter than most boots and the colours are fantastic. I am wearing the leather version of the F50's; they help me be fast on the pitch.

SB: What makes the F50 boot range stand out for you, compared with Predator and adiPure as you used to wear the adiPure?

DS:
I think each boot has its own qualities. The F50 suits the way I play really well though. They're really light which allows me to move with speed and change direction quickly, which I believe are important parts of my game.

SB: Do you like the new Green/Pink colour?

DS:
I really like it. I've been wearing the chameleon colourway for a while now and I really like that boot. However, its nice to have a change and the new green and pink colour is different from any type I've seen before!

SB: Is a lightweight football boot important in the modern game?

DS:
Yes I think lightweight boots are proving very helpful, especially with the pace at which football is played these days. The Premier League is particularly fast-paced and the way we play in the Spanish national team revolves around quickness of feet and movement - light boots aid this style of play. It's not just the wingers and strikers who are really quick but almost every player on the pitch is lightening quick in the modern game so any advantage you can get will always help.

SB: Since you started playing, has boot technology influenced your game?

DS:
There have been so many developments over the course of my career. I remember being amazed at the really early Predators and how they helped you put swerve on the ball. Boot technology has moved on a lot since then to the F50's I'm wearing now and I can't even imagine what is in store for the future.

SB: Are your boots customised in any way, such as a special sole-plate/tongue?

DS:
I have a small Spain flag printed on the instep of my boots.

SB: Do you have a boot collection at home, have you kept any memorable pairs from special games?

DS:
Yes, I've kept the boots I wore at the European Championships 2008 and the World Cup this year.

SB: Of all the goals you've scored which is your favourite?

DS:
I love scoring for Spain, and I really enjoyed the long-range effort I scored for Valencia against Chelsea in the Champions League. However, I particularly enjoyed my first goal for Man City against Blackpool. It was a big moment for me and a special goal which I hope is one of many for me at the club.

SB: What would you say is your career highlight?

DS:
I am very proud of everything we achieved at Valencia but being part of the winning Spanish squad at Euro 2008 and at the World Cup this year was very special for me. Representing your country is a huge honour and we ended a long drought for the national team.

SB: Did you always dream of playing in the English Premier League?

DS:
My only dream as a youngster was to play football professionally. I have always admired the style of football in the Premier League. I think as well as La Liga in Spain it is the best league in the world and I feel lucky to have been able to play in both competitions with some of the best players on the planet.

Image

SB: Many of your international team-mates are in England, do you keep in contact with them?

DS:
I speak to Fernando (Torres), Cesc (Fabregas) and Pepe Reina, we were all in the World Cup squad together so we are all quite close. Torres and Reina don't live too far away from me so that's helpful. I am very close with David Villa and AndrÉs Iniesta who are both in Barcelona now but we still talk regularly.

SB:
In the Spanish squad, who's the fastest player?

DS:
I think it could be either Sergio Ramos or Torres. Although I think I could give them a good race!

SB:
In your opinion, who is currently the best footballer in the world?

DS:
Lionel Messi. For someone so young he is unbelievably talented.

SB: If you could pick any player as a dream teammate, from the past or currently playing, who would it be?

DS:
Two great players I really enjoyed playing with at Valencia were Manuel Ruz and Sisinio Gonzalez Martinez

SB: Finally, what's the best piece of advice you've been given in your career?

DS:
Enjoy playing football.
