Some mornings when we arrive at SoccerBible HQ we are greeted by shoebox sized packages containing a variety of footballing delights. But when we arrived to an elongated parcel we were all intrigued as to what it could contain, and of course the last thing we were expecting was Nike base layer!
What we love about our friends at Nike is they seem to have a philosophy that if something is worth doing, it's worth doing in a major way! So rather than launch a new range of base layers like any standard brand would, Nike have created the BOOM campaign and sent us through four cartridges loaded and ready to go!
It seems that in the modern game, along with your football boot choice, there are a few other on-pitch football fashions to follow if you want to become the next Premier League superstar! Firstly, you need to wear white ankle socks taped to your team socks, secondly, if you have long hair it needs to be held back with a hair band, and thirdly, as soon as the weather gets cold you need to wear gloves and a base layer.
The new Nike Pro Combat base layers are the essential product for any modern footballer, and the BOOM campaign used to launch the range has recruited such star players as Wayne Rooney, Wesley Sneijder, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Michael Essien, Andres Iniesta and Ashley Cole. Of course, it's also worth remembering that as well as style the Nike Pro Combat range gives athletes both the physical and mental edge to create game changing moments.
It was only this weekend that Wayne Rooney was sporting his Nike base layer under his Manchester United shirt, and over the coming months you will see more and more players in the Premier League, Primera Division and Serie A wearing base layers. They have become a crucial piece of performance equipment to have in your kitbag, as they not only regulate your body temperature, but stimulate your muscles and help prevent injury.
We're sure there are a host of Nike stars who have received their Nike BOOM Presentation Pack, and with a layer to suit almost every playing condition we can expect to see more of them on the pitch.
