Darren Fletcher Interview

SoccerBible recently had the opportunity to catch up with one of Manchester United's midfield general's, whose football career has seen him gradually become one of the key figures at Old Trafford.

After a relatively slow start at Manchester United that involved criticism from club legend Roy Keane, Fletcher has tarnished the label of 'Fergie's Son' to go on and be an integral part of a Championship, FA Cup, Carling Cup, and Champions League winning Manchester United side.

To coincide with the recent release of the new adidas adiPURE IV football boots, SoccerBible fired some boot-related questions at the Scottish midfielder to find out what he made of his new boots...

SB: What was your first impression of the adidas adiPure IV football boots?

DF:
I really like the new adiPURE IVs - I ve always been a fan of classic boots andthese new ones match that style whilst being very comfortable which ideal for me.

SB: Are you a fan of the classic colourway?

DF: Absolutely! I ve always preferred traditional colours in my boots. Occasionally I ll go for something a bit more out there but generally stick to black and white.

Image

SB: You're not tempted by brightly coloured boots, like your team-mate Nani?

DF: Sometimes! Nani is wearing the real bright adidas F50s at the moment and they certainly stand out.

SB: Do you prefer a leather upper over synthetic, and what benefits are there for you?

DF:
I personally prefer a leather upper, I like the way leather moulds to your foot and it just feels more comfortable for me

SB: Are your boots modified in any way, such as a customised sole-plate/tongue?

DF: Yes, I have a slight heel raise.

SB: Do you have a boot collection at home, have you kept any memorable pairs?

DF: Yes, I have my boots from the cup finals I've been involved in. They were special games and it's nice to have mementos from important points in my career.

SB: Can you remember the first pair of football boots you ever bought?

DF: No I can t actually! I started playing football when I was very young so I m not sure on that one.

SB: What's the favourite goal you've scored?

DF: I scored a volley against Everton in 2009 that sticks in the memory. It came across to me and I caught it just right so it was always moving away from the keeper.

The swerve took it right into the corner of the net. It was one of those that as soon as I connected I knew it was flying in.

SB: What's your career highlight?

DF: I m fortunate enough to play for Manchester United so have been involved in some great triumphs with the club. I think the most special to me was probably the first Premier League win I was involved in.

SB: Who was your sporting idol when you were younger?

DF:
From a football point of view I thought Fernando Redondo was a fantastic player - it was so unfortunate that he had so many problems with injury.

In terms of general sporting idols, Kobe Bryant is an unbelievable talent and has dominated basketball for so long.

SB: What's the best piece of advice you've been given in your career?

DF:
Have no regrets - do everything you can to be at the top of your game

SB: In your opinion, who is currently the best footballer in the world?

DF:
I ll have to say Lionel Messi - he is so fast. You have to admire his ability to move the ball in and out of his feet so quickly.

SB: If you could pick any player as a dream team-mate, from the past or currently playing, who would it be?

DF:
Roy Keane

SB: Are there any matches this season that you're particularly looking forward to?

DF: It's always fantastic to play in the ''big'' games in the Premier League.

I think this season is so competitive there are no easy games at all. Playing against the like of Arsenal and Chelsea is always special.

The fans always make the atmostphere incredible and we know how important it is to win those big games.

SB: Would you prefer to win the Champions League this season or reclaim the Premier League title from Chelsea?

DF:
Tough question! I think I'll have to say the Premier League.
