Salomon Kalou Interview

Salomon Kalou Interview

When the SoccerBible recently caught up with Chelsea's Salomon Kalou, it gave us the chance to ask him if he still believed Chelsea were in with a chance of winning the Premier League, and the impact of Fernando Torres and David Luiz. But more importantly, we got to hear his thoughts on the adizero football boots and the new adidas Champions League Finale football...

SB: You were one of the first players to wear the adizero football boots, which have gone on to make a huge impact on pitches around the globe, so what's your opinion of the F50 adizero?

SK: I love them, because they are light you have a good feeling with the ball. I enjoy playing with them, I played in them at the World Cup and they're a really good football boot.

I was just amazed at how light they are. When you touch them you think every time someone steps on your toes you are going to feel pain, but since I've been wearing them I've had no problems - I'm enjoying wearing them.

SB: We're here to see the new adidas Finale London football, so what do you think of the new Champions League ball?

SK: I think it's a nice ball with a really good touch, and also shooting is very good. I think for us strikers it is a great ball to play with.

SB: Is there a noticeable difference when playing with the Champions League ball and Premier League ball?

SK: Yes, it's different because the Premier League ball is bigger, and you don't have as much control over the ball. But with this ball you can do pretty much want you want with it.

SB: Chelsea have been in indifferent form, but what would you consider to be a successful season come May?

SK: It would be overtaking Manchester for the Premiership, making the comeback. That would be a very successful season.

SB: So you believe you have a realistic chance?

SK: Well you never know. If we win on Monday it will be nine points, and with nine points you never know. it's only three games.

SB: Have you been impressed with David Luiz and Fernando Torres?

SK: Yes they are great players. They came to boost the spirit and the bad times the club was in. I think they're doing very well and obviously they will help us to be in Wembley for the Champions League final.

SB: Returning to the Champions League ball then, is it poetic that the current ball is blue?

SK: Yes that's to show you the direction, if you play with the blue ball you get to the final!

SB: Is it an extra incentive that the Champions League final will be at Wembley?

SK: Of course, it will be amazing to reach the final and play at Wembley. Everytime we come to Wembley for a final we've had a good game and won, so hopefully we get to the final because playing at Wembley is a lucky stadium for us. It's a great stadium, with a great atmosphere and playing here is always amazing so I'm looking forward to it.

SB: Are there any teams in particular you'd like to play in the competition?

SK: After Copenhagen maybe Arsenal or Tottenham, it would be a good London derby.

SB: Finally, will you be watching the Barcelona v Arsenal Champions League game?

SK: If you are a football lover you have to watch this kind of game, with both teams that can play football, watching them is something that every kid and football lover wants to see. The best team won last time, even though Barcelona was apparently the best, Arsenal showed that they are a good team with great players and they came back stronger.
