Attacking Midfielders - Who Would You Pick?

Three attacking midfielder's have dominated the transfer headlines this summer. Luka Modric, Samir Nasri and Wesley Sneijder are on the radars of such clubs as Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City, so we ask which player you'd prefer to have at your club and offer a few crucial stats...

With Manchester United's ongoing search to fill the void left by Paul Scholes, Sir Alex Ferguson recently commented: "I could pick three or four players to come in but they wouldn't be good enough for us so there is no point." Which got us thinking, of the three most talked about attacking midfielder's this summer, which one would you prefer to have in your side? Leave your opinions with the SoccerBible community online, on Twitter and on Facebook.

We turned to the bods at Castrol Stats to generate some statistics from last season, and see how this collection of attacking talent compared. What immediately stood out for us was Sneijder's rate of fire with over 100 shots, however it's Nasri who is the more lethal in front of goal, whilst Modric seems relatively goal shy with just 54 shots. Modric isn't shy when it comes to dribbling the ball though as he set off on 113 dribbles, 22 shy of Nasri, but more than double Sneijder's 51 and with an impressive 61% completion rate.

However, you may not necessarily be looking for a goalscorer or a dribbler in an attacking midfielder, it could be more important to have a playmaker. For this Modric comes out on top averaging 63 passes per game, and over the course of the season around 500 more passes than Nasri and Sneijder! However, Samir Nasri is the most effective in the final third with an 83% pass completion, coupling nicely with his highest dribbles per game and shooting accuracy. Although it is Sneijder who claims the most goal assists.

Interestingly all three players opt for different footwear, but all three football boots are reflective of their style of play. As we've already established Sneijder likes to have a shot, so he opts for the Nike T90 Laser football boots which benefit from shooting accuracy and Nike's ShotShield technology. Both Nasri and Modric are keen to get the ball on the deck and run with it, so unsurprisingly they wear speed boots and are in the rival adidas adizero and Nike Mercurial football boots.

This trio of attacking players have attracted the attention of such clubs as Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City. They are viewed as top tier players, but given the choice which player would your prefer to have in your starting line-up?
