Jay Spearing Interview

Jay Spearing Interview

SoccerBible recently met up with Liverpool centre midfielder Jay Spearing, the Academy graduate enjoyed a great run in the first team last season and is looking forward to more appearances this term. Jay told us what it s like to play alongside your hero, and the advantages the Nike Seitiro ball offers players

SoccerBible: You ve been using the new Nike Seitiro for a little while now, what do you think of it?

Jay Spearin
It s a great ball. The pace of it shows. If you get a good shot on it then you can cause the goalkeeper problems.

SB: So all footballs aren t all the same?

JS: No, they re completely different. Every year, Nike has brought out a new ball with a different feel to it. You can notice it when you strike the ball and you can see goalkeepers struggling to adjust to how different balls turn in the air.

SoccerBible: What boots are you wearing this season?

JS:
Nike CTR 360 in the black, white and red colourway for the start of the season.

SB: Have you kept any pairs of boots that are special to you?

JS: I ve got my debut boots in a glass frame at home. It was a moment I was very proud of so they are very special to me. I sometimes give boots I ve worn to my cousins and family members.

SB: Who is your football hero?

JS: Stevie Gerrard. When I was growing up, I looked up to him as he was one of the best players around. Training with him day in day out now is a massive bonus and something I love doing.

SB: What are the ambitions for the club this season?

JS:
We ve got to be looking for at least a top-four finish and Champions League qualification. We d love to get a bit of silverware, too.

SB: How about your personal ambitions?

JS: Last season I played 20 games for Liverpool and this year I m just hoping to build on that and do all I can for the team. I was lucky enough to be called in to the 40-man squad for the Under-21s in the summer and. I ve always wanted to play for England. Breaking in to the national team is an ambition of mine.

SB: What s it like having a club legend like Kenny Dalglish as your manager?

JS:
It s great. He s been getting involved in the pre-season 5-a-side games.

SB: Could he make the bench?

JS: [Laughs] No. Not in this day and age.

SB: Are there any other young players at Liverpool who have impressed you?

JS: Striker Daniel Pacheco has been called in to the Spain Under-21 side and is one to look out for.

SB: Who s got the hardest shot at Liverpool?

JS: Daniel Agger.

SB: Who has the best range of passing?

JS: I d like to say myself, but it is Stevie G!

SB: Best finisher?

JS: Luis Suarez.

SB: Who is the fastest player?

JS: Our new signing Stewart Downing.

SB: Best tricks?

JS: Stewart Downing.

SB: What are your hobbies outside of football?

JS: We train for a couple of hours a day so I just try to relax as much as possible outside that. I like to play golf and to spend time with my girlfriend and family.

A hard-working and honest midfielder, Jay Spearing is a local lad come good, we wish him all the best for the 2011/12 Premier League season. S
