Van Persie Returns To Hat-Trick Predators
Even when you're in the form of your career, superstition can still play on the mind of the worlds best footballers. As a resurgent Arsenal side travelled to Wigan on Saturday, club captain and lead goalscorer Robin Van Persie had boot spotters scratching their heads as to why the Dutchman turned out wearing his old Electricity adidas Predator X boots.
Cast your mind back to January and Van Persie's surprise boot switch is far more understandable! Arsenal's number 10 bagged his first ever Premier League hat-trick wearing his Electricity Pred X boots when Wigan visited the Emirates on Saturday 22 January 2011 - and the flying Dutchman has been firing on all cylinders ever since!

After making it 32 goals in 31 appearances in 2011 with the final nail in Wigan's coffin on Saturday, Robin Van Persie is on course to break the Premier League record for most goals scored in a calender year. Arsenal's talisman will have five more opportunities to surpass Alan Shearer's standing record of 36. If he achieves this, his adidas Predator boots will go down in Premier League history!
After the Gunners 4-0 away win at Wigan, and having already secured top position in their Champions League group, the Londoners are experiencing a Van Persie-fuelled revival. The Dutchman not only has a Premier League record in his sites, but a club one as well. With 32 league goals so far this year, he is on course to break Thierry Henry's mark of 34 Arsenal goals set in 2004.
No matter what football boots he wears, Arsenal fans will be hoping Van Persie carries his spectacular form into 2012. Shout out to SoccerBible user Hockley7 for this great spot! Share your thoughts online.
