Umbro Faces of England - Gazza

Umbro Faces of England - Gazza

As proud sponsors of the England team, Umbro are keen to celebrate the icons that have made history over the years, the Faces Of England , and they don t get much more iconic than Paul Gascoigne. An inspirational figure on the field, Gazza was the creative spark at the heart of England for many years, and as the current team look for success this summer Umbro thought he d be the perfect man to inspire England once again.

As one of the Faces Of England, Paul 'Gazza' Gascoigne is a football icon, whose talent on the pitch was only matched by the pride and passion he has for his country. Here, as Umbro celebrates his status as a icon of England, Gazza talks about the pride he felt representing his country, and the emotion of pulling on an England football shirt.

On the eve of the Euro's, Umbro have planned their 'Faces of England' campaign featuring iconic Englishmen or women from the worlds of football, style and culture all proudly wearing the England shirt. Each 'Face of England' will appear on a huge 130 square metre billboard on Old Street in London, a permanent home for the campaign, as well as on fly posters across the country.

To kick-off, the first face is an English footballing icon of Euros past - Paul Gascoigne or  Gazza  as he is affectionately known. Gazza himself unveiled the wall image and declared his support for the current squad. The timing coincides with England s Euro preparations, Gazza celebrating his 45th birthday on Sunday, and the Socceraid game for which Pro-Direct Soccer personalised the creative midfielders boots as shown here.

The image Umbro have used is a nod to Gazza's famous  tongue out  pose from his playing days. As you can see, Gazza is sporting the current England home shirt , and the pride and passion he still has for England is clear for everyone to see. Umbro sat down with the great man to talk about his career and some of the infamous stories that surround him recently, and we ll be revealing some of these moments over the next week.

In the extended version Gazza talks about what it meant for him to play for England and to look back at some of his finest moments on the pitch. Gazza turns 45 this weekend, but he s able to take us right back to 1996 here as he reflects on England s terrific victory against Holland, his goal against Scotland and the clear pride he has in his country. As England gear up for this summer's European Championships, Umbro are celebrating a true English football icon and a man who has spurred on the nation to success at previous tournaments: Paul 'Gazza' Gascoigne.

As the current England team head into the summer, Gazza s clear passion is aimed at helping to inspire them towards success. Gazza is one of football s real icons, and we'd love to hear your thoughts online.
